    Livery wanted South of Bristol

A good friend of mine is moving to Bristol in the Autumn and is starting to look for livery yards. DIY/assisted DIY/grass livery in the South Bristol area. Good year round turnout and decent hacking essential.

    Riding in a dressage saddle

I've just started sharing a really sweet cob, mostly hacking but with the occasional play in the school. He's only got a dressage saddle (which is lovely!) but I'm not used to it and I'm struggling to keep my leg hanging straight enough and my toes forward. Does anyone have any stretches or...

    Keepsake/Memorial Recommendations

Looking for ideas. Have a farrier willing to make something from shoes, but completely stuck as to what to get and same with tail really. Not a big jewellery person but any ideas or business recommendations welcome.

    Camp Thread - it's a long 'un.

I did threaten to do this last week so here we go. Overall I'm absolutely bloody thrilled with the beast, he loaded like an absolute professional, traveled quietly and stood with a haynet while we waited to be allowed on the yard like he'd been travelling and competing forever. Especially...

    Foot balance for dummies...

Any good articles/studies/information about foot balance? Particularly relating to barefoot or hind feet. It's not something I've got a load of experience with thinking about, have always trusted my farrier but my physio remarked yesterday on a slight muscle difference in D's quarters which...

    Pictures Camp Prep

Alongside loading practice to get ready for camp at Pontispool in a few weeks, I've also made the decision to stop bloody worrying and taking life too seriously. I feel great, however this does mean Denzel has been roped into my philosophy... Introducing L plates! I even have matching ones for...

    Pictures In honour of Burghley...

I haven't seen it but my friend took D over some XC fences while I've been working every hour under the sun in the vain hope that he'll at least have some idea what to do when I point him at things like a numpty! So pleased with him.

Pictures 2 years of Mayhem (aka Denzel!)

Mayhem by (passport) name, Mayhem by nature it seems! 2 years ago I made a completely hare-brained decision and bought a scrappy, gangly 4yo just before my final year of university. I'd never had my own horse before (short of a pony on loan) let alone a big youngster with a few issues related...

A numpty's showing questions - another 'which class' thread!

Total 'out and about' novice so apologies in advance for the barrage of questions. With possible potential to do some things next summer and perhaps some fun shows over the winter months (urgh, winter) I'm just wondering which classes D could be entered in? Once he's jumping I'd like to tackle...

    Stinky Stuff?

Is it worth the fuss? Have been seeing a few posts on social media and even after clipping D is itchy in his mane and tail, wondering if it's worth a try. Any experiences/alternative suggestions appreciated!

    Itchy horse

Anyone else's itchy at the moment? D seems to be struggling a bit, especially mane, tail, nose and back! No change in management in the last two weeks it's been happening, he's unrugged, naturally quite a hot horse (temperature wise) and a smidgen overweight but we're working on it. I'm...

Oh yeah, this is why i do it!

I've posted loads about my very tricky winter with D. Fencing issues meant no turnout, no turnout meant wired pony, wired pony meant trip to A&E after being left on the concrete. I don't blame him, but it shook me up in a big way. 8 weeks holiday, an inch or two taller and at least 4 wider (ah...

    Fail Friday

"Get him fit for camp" she said, "he's been so good!" She said. Finally feeling better about hacking, decided it was time to up his trot work. Saintly through the gates, great past the cows, pick up a contact ask for trot and *clang* *thud*. Clean off. The face of no regrets... Please tell...

    What to wear...

For grooming! Have been asked to help a friend at a HOYS qualifier, not sure what to wear in the ring?

    Dressage Which Intro?

    Saddle Fitter Appreciation Post

I bought a new saddle before Denzel went on holiday - a very lovely Black Country Event saddle, so much for my "no proper saddles until he's fully grown" - about 8 weeks ago and booked my saddle fitter to come out and check it once he was back, so she squeezed me into an evening appointment...

    Another string test question!

Having just got D back we've had lots of comments on how he's grown, there's a lot more depth but he's also gone very leggy. Probably a bit of a daft question but would a string test be accurate on a rising 6yo? Last one I did might have overestimated as said he was going to be 17'2hh, he...

    Your "must read" horsey books

As title really, a non-horsey friend has started showing a real interest and wants to get involved. I trust beastie on the ground so he's going to come and meet him in a few weeks but want to set him some homework first (he laughed at that but I'm deadly serious). Book recommendations on all...

The Eventing Club, and if so is it worth it? I'm looking to get involved in more demos/lectures and wondered if this was a good way of going about it. https://www.theeventingclub.info/about?fbclid=IwAR0-KsAsyO5Vn7fHKXLMopx88sNP9EJ4SwI-_Ah-4qYWYLrS2N04m__1UBQ

    Is it wrong...

To feel so relieved! Denzel went off on his holiday today after a month of being stabled. The loading was making me nervous but he went in slowly (he does everything at his own pace...) but with minimal bribery and not one panic moment. He walked off the other end on a new yard having been stuck...

    WWYD - rugging (sorry!)

Denzel will soon be going on holiday livery (all being well) for a month where he'll be checked by staff Monday - Friday. He'll be out 24/7 in a herd with plenty of natural shelter although on a bit of a hill. He's quite a warm horse, not a wimpy type at all (unrugged during the snow down to -5...

    Holiday livery

Eventing ERM 2019 - no Blenheim, Blair or Barbury!

I feel a bit selfish for being so annoyed! It's great that there are so many exciting venues across Europe but i'll definitely miss Barbury from the calendar, my favourite to attend. Good to see an Irish venue though, don't know much about Millstreet but might look into a weekend away for that...
