    Welcome to HHO Towing Clinic

Thanks very much, thats good to know that I'm just appalling at maths. Think I may have been on an inaccurate website, as I'm sure it had the max towing weight as 1200kg. So based on your sums I'm fine to tow the trailer with the freelander on a provisional license (as long as Im...

    Welcome to HHO Towing Clinic

Hi Rog, Was hoping you could give me a bit of advice. We currently have an ifor 510 which we were planning to pull using a freelander sport 2.5l, and taking my b & e test. However, after checking the towing weight of the freelander, it appears I couldnt tow with a horse in at all (assuming...

Do we in the award for latest and fugliest foal of 2012?!

Thank you all for your lovely (generous!!) replies. He's definitely starting to grow on me now - but we'd heard rumours that it may have been a friesian she was covered by so we were half hoping for a beautiful, sleek little black foal - which he clearly is not!! Not sure why some of you...

Do we in the award for latest and fugliest foal of 2012?!

My BOGOF finally arrived this weekend... Name suggestions anyone? Also a quick numpty question about rugging. We live on the coast in west wales and to say it rains alot would be an understatement! Do I need to think about rugging him? There's no shelter in the paddock he's in. At the...

Help please - do I need to call the vet?

Thanks toast, panic now over. Fingers crossed we'll have a foal soon as this whole waiting malarky is very stressful.

Help please - do I need to call the vet?

Thank you!! She has been swelling up over night for a few weeks now, and then comes back in in the evening and has reduced right down again. This is the first time she has had swelling on her stomach so wasn't sure if it was normal or not.

Help please - do I need to call the vet?

After a bit of advice on whether I need to get the vet out or not? Still waiting on a BOGOF foal to arrive. Mare has come in this evening with strange swellings on her stomach - I think it may be veins running to her udder. Her udder is hot and harder to the touch then it has been. It's also...

Anyone STILL waiting for mare to foal?

My BOGOF mare is still holding on. Vet estimated she'd be due around end of july and as yet, nothing. She bags up overnight, but by the time she comes in at the end of the day its gone back to nothing. Beginning to think it's never going to arrive!

How long do you think she has to go?

Thanks GR, have just had a good read of the milk testing thread - looks like I'm off to the garden centre tomorrow! She is actually very good and not to bothered about having her udders handled. Not sure she has anything there to express at the moment though. Will check out surelimb too, see if...

    Does my mare look pregnant?

We had a similar situation with our mare, she had a big low belly but no weight elsewhere, was very quiet and hadn't had a season. We got the vet in the end just so we could be sure and vet was able to confirm she was in foal by rectal examination. She's supposed to be due in the next few weeks...

How long do you think she has to go?

Thank you all for your help, trying to absorb as much information as I can so I can be as prepared as possible. BennionsField, I've had the vet out already but as we're in a very rural part of Wales they're not really equine specialists so to speak! I know there's a lot of welsh pony studs...

How long do you think she has to go?

Thanks Miss L toe- really pleased with how well she's looking as she was really poor when we bought her. Did wonder whether she should be getting hard feed now, at the moment she's just on grass & hay?

How long do you think she has to go?

We bought her late November. Vet confirmed from a rectal, guessing if she'd been scanned they would have been able to give a more accurate due date? The only signs I've noticed so far are a very slight increase in the size of her bag/teats and a softening in her muscles behind. Either side of...

How long do you think she has to go?

Vet confirmed my mare was in foal about 3 weeks ago (BOGOF!) and said she thought about a month or so until she foaled. I've been reading posts on here and info online to as this is all new to me (if anyone can recommend some good websites about foaling would be very greatful?) and from what...

First timer - need some advice please

Thanks for your help Maesfen. Stable walls are all solid brick, it's just the front wall that has railings on top half. Wasn't sure how private they liked to be and whether it would distress her if the other horses could see her. There's no horses stabled either side, just one directly...

First timer - need some advice please

Thanks Amymay. Would definitely have seperated her once the foal arrives, was just worried about doing so beforehand. To be honest its the gelding who's being pts who is the worst so I think once he's out of the equation the others will be fine. Thanks for your advice.

First timer - need some advice please

Hi all, So despite being a lurker on hho for some time, this is the first time I've ventured into the breeding board and would really appreciate some advice please? Have just had a vet confirm a BOGOF on the mare we bought at the end of Nov - estimated that she probably has a month or so...

    Clipper recommendations? Liveryman Harmony's?

Could anybody recommend me some clippers please? I currently have Liveryman harmony clippers which I've been less than impressed with. They managed one full clip on a slightly hairy Irish Sport, and then a (very poor) blanket on a Fjord and now they've just given up on me half way through...

    Field maintenance

I'm after some advice on field maintenance/management please? We've just bought a place with 8 acres of land after having horses on livery for past 15 years. At the moment the land is immaculate- it looks like a lawn! Just wondering what I need to do to keep it this way & what equipment we'll...

    Aberystwyth -Horsey community?

Hi all, We've just had an offer accepted on a property 9 miles outside Aberystwyth in Llanrhystud. I was just wondering if anyone is local to that area and could tell me what the horsey community is like there? Is there a lot going on? Also would be great if anyone is local and fancies...

Ok next yard move question...how the flip do I move my mats?!

Definitely another vote for ebaying them here! I moved mine before christmas after they'd been down 3 years. Although I'm well used to the smell of horse pee & have a fairly strong stomach the smell made me actually throw up. Not pleasant at all!! :D

    Dubarry Boots

I think I must be in the minority. I've had mine for almost 2 years where have they been worn pretty much every day & they're still going strong, although stitching is starting to fray a bit on one. I also received fantastic customer service from them. I had a bad fall a few months after buying...

    Livery Vs Horses at home?

Thanks for all the opinions everyone. Luckily OH not only rides, but is also a carpenter/builder so maintenance etc wouldn't be a problem! Think I would definitely miss having company on occasion but I guess that can be solved by sharers or getting liveries in.

    Livery Vs Horses at home?

Thanks guys, interesting to hear people's opinions. Enfys you certainly do a very good job of selling the idea of having them at home!! Is there anything in particular you need to think about when you have them at home? I know that may sound like a stupid question, but having always had them on...

    Livery Vs Horses at home?

Just wondering how many of you have horses at home, and how many on livery? What would you say are the pro's & con's of your situation? And for those who have done both, how different is it having horses at home to keeping them at a livery yard? Thanks all :)

    Thoughts on selling?

horserider - costs to keep him are minimal really as he is out 24/7, so cost isn't really the issue. I honestly have absolutely no idea what he'd be worth now, or after work - will need to do some research I guess as completely out of the loop with regards to the market at the moment! He...

    Thoughts on selling?

Cai - ideally that's what I would have done but the unforeseen circumstances were becoming pregnant and baby's not due til end of June. So really will be looking at early/late autumn if I wait to sell. Other option is sending him away on sales livery I guess but I'd worry about where he'd end up...

    Thoughts on selling?

Just wondering what everyone's opinion was on this... I've got a just turned 5 year old who has been turned away for a year to grow up and find his feet as he was very unbalanced as a 4 year old. Thanks to completely unforeseen circumstances I'm now having to sell him, which I'm gutted about...
