    Flighty horse esp in hand

It sounds like that 1. This horse doesn’t see its handler as a ‘leader’ and 2. This horse has never learnt to yield to human space. As said above even if a horse is anxious or scared they should still respect human space. It sounds like he would really benefit from some groundwork sessions with...

Splint - light work or complete rest?

Thats reassuring! Finns is only small compared to some I have seen so I am hopeful it will also not be noticeable after a while x

Splint - light work or complete rest?

Thanks for input. Will likely rest for a further few days then continue work. He is only doing walking hacks mostly anyway so will reintroduce and build up again slowly whilst monitoring.

Splint - light work or complete rest?

I would worry about having a very fat horse which equally would probably not be beneficial! It’s a minefield!

Splint - light work or complete rest?

*Just to say I will be consulting vet but just interested in other peoples experiences and opinions* Gutted that Finn has thrown a relatively small splint, he had such clean legs 😫. But horses will be horses. He moved to a new field a few days ago so can only imagine he has walloped himself...

    Buying horses unseen

Yes and have done. Would only do so if prepared to lose the money if it doesn’t work out, the height of horse isn’t vital and the seller is trustworthy. edited to add I wouldn’t buy a ridden horse unseen. Only unbroken/lightly backed.

Video Couldn’t not share! Warning - cuteness overload!

He’s a good lad. I really don’t know how to describe it, but he just feels like an ‘old soul’. Sounds silly probably, but I just feel like he’s one of those horses that has an almost deeper understanding.

Video Couldn’t not share! Warning - cuteness overload!

It’s Finn’s 4th birthday today. Can’t believe I bought him over a year ago unseen and what a lovely horse he is becoming! He celebrated in normal Finn style this morning with a lay in. My OH decided to join him today! So cute I had to share ❤️

Having a fab time with Finn at the minute. He’s really starting to nail this hacking alone malarkey! Getting more bold every time we go out and exploring new routes without question and remaining chilled. Most pleased with how he is with the traffic, he is rock solid through our busy village...

Where to find a nice coloured foal? Recommendations please!

Murraybrook Stud are local to me in Kent and breed exactly what you’re looking for. Lovely horses. https://www.facebook.com/MurraybrookStudShowTeam/

Success! First completely solo hack with no jogging whatsoever. We also tackled a lawn mower and big tractor and sprayer simultaneously with no dramas. I love my overgrown pony!

Had our first proper canter together today. Bar a few strides in the school Finn hasn’t really cantered at all and me and trainer agreed that cantering straight lines out hacking at present will be best as Finn is just so big and unbalanced. Had my OH in the ground just in case but he was super...

Finn has been back under saddle 4 weeks since his winter break. He went to his first show yesterday and only second ever outing and he behaved like an absolute pro! So proud!

    Pictures Finn’s first show report.

I normally post Finn updates in the 3/4 year for year old thread, however I felt this update required a little thread of its own. After having a long winter break Finn has been back under saddle for nearly 4 weeks including a couple of weeks at my trainers yard. He came home Thursday and there...

    Backing 3/4yr olds

Finn is home! He’s spent the last nearly three weeks at one of my trainers yards just to do a little schooling and to see different environments etc. Came home Thursday and I’ve had a couple of rides in the field since and he’s been foot perfect. He’s never been ridden in the field before so...

    Best Towing vehicle

I have a VW Touareg. It tows VERY nicely and easily tows two horses. Whilst it’s a big car it’s not as huge as a pick up and has some nice creature comforts! I personally would only want to tow two horses with something that can tow 3.5t. These kinds of cars aren’t going to be the most efficient...

God I can’t ride!! 🙈🙈 Apart from pottering around the block a few times I haven’t ‘ridden’ in nearly two years and god it shows!! I went to ride Finn at the trainers yard this afternoon and he was such a star. He tries so hard and he feels so lovely under saddle despite obvious wobbly babyness...

    Backing 3/4yr olds

Finn’s been away at a trainers yard for some schooling and ‘life experience’. He’s kept on a private yard with one other horse and no facilities so I just wanted him to experience a slightly busier environment, going in the school and some group hacks. He has been away a week so far and has...

Another hack for Finn this morning. Our house is on the same road as the yard so this time I tacked up and left the yard alone this morning. OH met me at the house, walked around the block with me then again I did the last stretch back to the yard alone. Finn was good as gold, no napping or...

So please with Finn. First ever ridden hack without another horse for company this morning (just my trusty OH and dog). He was fab, considering it’s quite blowy out we had no spooking and he was good trotting ahead and passing large lorries. He is a bit unsettled in his mouth but he is due for...

    Backing 3/4yr olds

After trying multiple saddles that didn’t work for Finn a couple of weeks ago, I managed to pick up a lovely second hand Black Country saddle that with a bit of adjustment yesterday is now perfect. He was good as good for the saddler and today we hacked around the block in company and he was a...

    Jump saddles for wide/flat backs

This describes Finn’s back to a T. I’ve just picked up a second hand WH Black Country saddle on the freedom tree as recommended by saddle fitter and this tree shape fits like a glove (although will need to be widened slightly from W to XW). So I would recommend the jump models on a freedom tree...

    Ah the ups and downs....

I wouldn’t be able to do it now 🙈 not very springy any more but when I was 16 I could hop on! May be worth investigating some mounting points to give it a go.

    Ah the ups and downs....

Can you get on from the ground? My ex racer was an awful napper. The only way I fixed it was to lead her out on hacks, then when she seemed relaxed I would lead her out tacked up on the same route. Then lead her out and get on when very nearly home, then gradually get on earlier and earlier...

    Pictures Saddle suggestions please?

he was in a fieldhouse last year when lightly backed and ridden away but doesn’t fit in the slightest now and haven’t really seen at much wider than the one I have.
