Camera and app to watch horse in stable

Hi, I am looking for recommendations for a camera which I can put in my mates Stable (with night vision) that I can watch via my mobile from anywhere. Happy to install WiFi to the yard. Just would like to know what is out there and if anyone had used such a system when foaling their mares...

Stable Tax (rates on private yards)

We spoke to the BHS today, and they don't have a clue. In fact, they gave us a number to call, who had never even heard of the BHS and don't work along side them! We are going around in circles.... Yes, you pay rates, but then for that you get something in return, such as your waste removed (or...

Stable Tax (rates on private yards)

This is exactly the problem. They are just trying to squeeze every penny out of people they can. All our neighbours have also received these letters. They are left on gates and tied to barns ect. The other problem is the horses welfare - if people have to start paying out hundreds of pounds to...

Stable Tax (rates on private yards)

This is exactly what we have found, except that they are targeting EVERYONE with a stable, barn or land with a horse on it! Most of us are only small land owners with a couple of stables, no business or liveries. Also just found out, that farmers who rent out stables to people whose horses are...

Stable Tax (rates on private yards)

Strangely enough, the letters are from a Birmingham company address, on behalf of the local council. A few of the yard owners who have been in to ask the question to the council, say even the people at the council are either confused or unaware! But it is island wide. Will keep you posted.

Stable Tax (rates on private yards)

For us, our land and stables are not part of the house. But even people with land and stables attached to their house will have to pay this extra tax. So far, there are about 250 people waiting for their yards to be inspected by the council to see their facilities. Would still like to hear if...

Stable Tax (rates on private yards)

We shall be. It is a very real tax, we have spoken to the Rate dispute person. It is up to each council if they wish to make this charge or not.

Stable Tax (rates on private yards)

Everyone in our area is receiving letters from the council (Isle of Wight) about them wanting to assess for the amount of stables you have, barn size, if there is a school or not ect. Word on the street is (without starting a panic) is that ALL stables have to pay rates, even if privately...

Best indoor venue for hire near Southampton/Portsmouth

Thanks guys. I will make enquiries. I know Medstead Grange used to have seating along one side and that it is private now, so I was looking for other possible venues that are not public, but private or not so well known. Such a shame that it was sold on and that HMS Dryad no longer exists.

Best indoor venue for hire near Southampton/Portsmouth

Hi all, I'd like to pick your brains for the best Equestrian Venue in the south! Not Croften or Quob as I am aware of both those venues :) I am looking for somewhere that will hire out for a private 'gig' with spectator seating, good car parking, decent riding surface and lighting and both...

Feeling down.. aftermath of losing a horse. Experiences, please?

Hey Breez, I'm so sorry to hear that you are going through this. A lot of us have, and when I lost one of mine a few years ago, I was devastated. I did buy a new horse, but all I did was become a zombie, I would break down crying all the time. I ended up selling my best and most beloved horse...

WWYD - very annoyed, upset owner - poorly horse

Forgot to say that the trauma to the neck was most likely caused by her going over backwards in the horse walker (which would account for the scars on her neck and the muscle loss on her face) She was also 'left on the walker for longer as it help to keep her quieter' - the walker was only a...

WWYD - very annoyed, upset owner - poorly horse

Hi all, I thought I'd give you an up date as t how my sweet girl is doing, and what we have found out since this started. Since returning her home, we carefully put the pieces of the puzzle together and she had a full vetting examination done and it was concluded that she had a...

Strangest reasons for people not buying your horse

OMG - so many weird time wasters out there. The strangest one I ever had was a lady who drove 2 hours to see the horse, she 'Loved ' him from the moment she saw him, hugged him, watched me ride him, then refused to get on! As we walked back to the yard she announced that she couldn't find...

WWYD - also in comp riders

Thank you ajf Cheque to be cancelled, letter written and insurance company to be informed. I really thought I was doing the best for her and how she looks, even after a month is crazy and sickening :( How can people not 'notice' or hide it. I have video evidence and have kept a diary...

WWYD - very annoyed, upset owner - poorly horse

Thank you all. I did (thank goodness) take pictures before I took her to yard 1. But I think I was so shocked that I just wanted out of there - rider 1 was not there and the grooms had vanished. I'm very happy with rider 2, who is doing a wonderful job, but now we have a horse (just spoken...

WWYD - also in comp riders

Hi all, I come to ask your help once again. It's long I'm afraid :( Back in January, I posted on here about what people thought I should do with my mare and sending her away to a 'pro' to be competed for the year. All advise was used and I thought I'd found the perfect yard - did all...

"You ruin many a good horse on the way to the top"

I've read this post with great interest, and thought I should add that you can also 'ruin' a horse by breaking his spirit - horses are not robots, and yet so many are treated as such :( My mare was sent to a 'pro' and all seemed fine, but she has lost her 'sparkle'. Now at a new yard and...

should I let someone else take on my horse this season

Yes I will contact her for some advise on who would suit my girl and me. I'll also see when she is coming over to the island as all mine will need to be checked over before I start to get them back into shape one at a time... Thanks Luci!

should I let someone else take on my horse this season

Thank you for all the advise :) I would defiantly quiz any prospective rider on EVERYTHING to do with the care, training, feeding, tack ect. And I will go through the BE lists to look at results and the amount of horses they have ridden. Yes Ellie does come to the island, mum uses her. I...

should I let someone else take on my horse this season

I'm on the Isle of Wight, I was based in hampshire until about 3 years ago. I know she will have to go to the main land, but we do have to travel there for competitions and schooling anyway.

should I let someone else take on my horse this season

Hi, Im sure Im in the same situation as a lot of people, lack of time to ride, (not ridden any of my horses since October) due to work commitments and lack of falcilities close to home. I have a very talented young event mare whom I coached along slowly last year and she exceed all our...

Advice needed - X breeding Shire & Percheron with TB.

I have a lovely Percheron X WB, he is 18 next year and is fantastic in every way! He had super confirmation, and temperament to die for! I love these crosses, but again, anything you breed can be a hit or miss. Good luck!

    pulborough

I jump judged all day today and the ground was fab this morning - they had to help with some of the takeoffs and landings towards the end of the day, but most of the horses looked to be pulling still at the end. Yes a few were tired, but you get that anywhere. They are moving some of the jumps...
