    Recommendations for towing vehicle

Nissan X-Trail. Tow capacity is 2tonnes so plenty for a trailer and one horse (I have an Ifor Williams 505 trailer with two large ponies generally) I get 45-60mpg daily driving, depending if I'm putting my foot down or taking it easy, the best I've got is 72!!)and I get 30mpg towing one pony...

    Age/Joint Supplement

Hi I have two Italian Spinones, aged 9 and 1. I'm looking to put my older girl on a suitable age/joint diet now she's getting on a bit. They both feed from each others' bowls and are slow/picky eaters so it would be a bit of a nuisance to try and separate them in order to feed one a "senior"...

    Questions RE: Buying horse/s

I agree with many of the points the OP has made, I do think a straightforward question deserves an honest straightforward answer (although I too have never heard of waving). However I would also strongly recommend asking for videos, particularly if the horse is a distance from you, stating...

Really??? I phoned them last week and that's what they told me 😢 Or do you mean the solicitors form...did you not have to take it to a solicitor to sign?

I've done that, my colour choice of insulating tape was yellow 😂

Full/part livery people- does your stuff vanish?

Do you know where the "pile" is? Can you retrieve your things back? I'd have a word with the owner/staff to voice your concerns nicely (at first😊). If they realise you're bothered about using your own buckets etc (other liveries might not be, or might not visit regularly and notice...

    Judge Rinder -Loan case

I have three horses, all have passports issued at birth, but only one has all previous owners details in, and that's for the pony I bought direct from the breeder! (Which I have updated to my details). He will never be sold but I wanted his passport in my name. When I looked at updating my...

    When the vet says............

My little grey welshie lived in the same field for 4 years. After one year of being there he came in one day with similar sores and blisters all over his muzzle, many were weeping it really didn't look nice, and looked sore although he didn't appear to be in pain when I touched him. That...

    Annoyed box rester

Can you walk him 2 mins or so to some grass and hand-graze for a while then 2 mins back to his stable? Poor pony, it might make him a bit happier and feel less like he's been shut up all day (grazing in hand, if he is sensible and will stand rather than mess around, can't be much different to...

Difference between show and working pt 2

Oooh I've only ever seen black Flatcoats, I didn't realise they came in any other colours 😊 Completely continually pee'd off and insulted by the number of people who think my brown roan Spinone is a "Labradoodle", not had many guesses as to what breed my orange roan Spinone is, most...

Clipping - saddle patch help needed!!!

Thanks for your comments. The fit of the saddle isn't my issue to sort, I understand it only happened a couple of times so she bought the pad, and it's not my pony. I just don't want to risk making it worse by clipping his saddle area if the general clipping opinion is that this makes saddles...

Clipping - saddle patch help needed!!!

Clipping friend's pony tomorrow. Although she's had saddle fitter out etc she has mentioned that occasionally the saddle slips forward just an inch or two. Not a major issue as has only happened a few times and pony now wears a non-slip pad under the saddle. I'm wondering if I should suggest...

    Worming for yard dogs

Well, not quite yard dogs per se, but I do take my dogs to the stables a lot, they eat poo whenever they think they can get away with it. They are also regularly walked on the beach with all its delights to smell, eat and roll in, mmmmmm, and in woodland. Should I be treating them with any...

Starting to compete young horse is this normal?

Agree with all of the above, only thing to add is can you take your instructor with you? It might be the horse getting excited etc or it might be you but you might not realise. Your regular instructor will be able to tell, and help you accordingly xx

Hey ho, hey ho, we're off to...

Don't quite know what to say but didn't want to read and run... Sounds like you've had a phenomenal time competing, way above the dizzy heights you thought you could reach. Off to Japan? Hmmm isn't that where the next olympics are??? Might be an idea to get involved in the eventing...

How long for senior to recover from fall?

I'd recommend seeing a physio, now that the referral has been sent can you call them to see how long their waiting list is. You could also suggest that you are available for a late notice cancellation, you might just get lucky and they hate to let appointments go to waste. If there is much of...

    Premier Equine rugs

I absolutely love my Premier Equine rugs!!! ❤️ I've had them 4-5 years and they're good as new, no holes, no rubbing, no leaks. And they don't get heavy when wet. They do come up big so I always order a size down. Also love my Swish Equestrian rugs 👍

Horse mad rider considering first horse. When is the right time?

BHS Horseowners Certificates are a great thing to do, you'll learn lots. Also there may not be many sharing or part-loaning opportunities around you (keep looking though) but if you put something in your local saddleries or Facebook pages offering free help mucking out/grooming etc a couple of...

    Budgets and Offers

A friend of mine was pony hunting a few years back, had a relatively small budget and had two to view in a weekend, one was very slightly over-budget and twice the price of the other. Went to see the cheaper one first, the owner was describing him and said "that's why he's so cheap" to which my...

    The odd worming result

I think irrespective of any worming or counts or poo-picking regime you are on, it has more to do with the horse's individual susceptibility to worms. I've known many herds on the same management whose worm counts come back with different results. It's got to be down to the individual horse...

    Stall guards

I've recently removed the stable door and installed slip rail brackets (from Robinsons) and a wooden rail/plank to one of my pony stables. It works fine and I have no concerns about the pony getting out or caught in any way overnight. Might be worth you considering?

    Travel boots or not?

I never ever travel mine with naked legs. Even if the horse doesn't need them for the actual journey I've seen a couple of really nasty injuries from well behaved horses slipping or tripping on ramps, so I just wouldn't risk it.

    Moving yards

It's a no-brainier for me. Move! The new yard is cheaper and has all the facilities you need (an indoor for winter would be heavenly 😊). Who knows how long it will take for your current yard to provide everything they promised, and it's more expensive! I'd move in a heartbeat 👍
