2yr old will not back up 🤨

No I’ve had him from December. He’s normally okay to lead. He came in overnight for a couple of months over winter and was generally fine to lead. This has been since he’s been living out and not handled as much. I agree probably a bad time to try. I struggle with the balance of leaving him to...

2yr old will not back up 🤨

So just back from the yard to get my 2 in due to impending storm tonight. One is a 2 yr old. He was an absolute toad to lead in, turning into me and rearing. Eventually we managed to come in fairly nicely so decided to do some basic backing up/getting out my space etc. Oh my god he literally...

    Electric fencing booster device?

I absolutely love the solar power ones. Someone on here recommend them to me. I have one for each strand to make sure it’s absolutely pinging! They’ve been a life saver for me as mine always seemed to know when the mains was off or weak

    Vettings and viewings

I had a 5 stage done on my current ridden horse, tried him 3 times, did all the right things! 11 months later aged 7 he basically broke down and is now only hacking sound. I bought a yearling unseen from a breeder late last year. Did my research on the breeder, still got a basic vetting done...

Pictures Week two - filly is fat!

Oh dear ☹️ I would have just carried on doing what you were planning to do. The other horse will shout etc but it’s not the end of the world. He will have to get over it.

Yup. My vet was out to my 2yr earlier for something unrelated and asked me if his weight has always been this good 😂😂

Youngster turns into me when leading

That’s exactly what I’m aiming for. What do you do when they get ahead of you though? That’s where it starts with us, he gets excited and starts prancing about then feels the rope so turns into me?

Youngster turns into me when leading

Ye I did wonder that actually. We would get to where he wants to be 100 x quicker if he just walked forwards rather than sideways 😂

    Horse colours and flies.

My horse is grey and he’s never been massively bothered by the flies or midges etv. My new Youngster is dark bay and they definitely bother him more. I usually get away with a few squirts of fly spray for my grey on bad days and that’s about it!!

    Itchy Skinned yearling

Oh check my recent posts! I have a 2yr old with mildly itchy but scabby patches of skin. I thought it might be sweet itch but luckily not. I ended up having the vet out today. She scraped the skin and sent samples off. She thought maybe microscopic type notes so gave me a sulphur wash, but most...

Youngster turns into me when leading

I get my 2yr old in once a week or so just to groom/feet used to coming in etc. Today he had the vet. The vet was late so he was in a super strop by the time she got there. I knew I was in for a challenge putting him back out 😂 He doesn’t read/buck/kick etc but he does this snake neck thing and...

What were the first signs of sweetitch if your horse has it?

Just to update.... Vet just been. Took some scrapes. Doesn’t think sweetitch. She thought maybe mites or something microscopic that he’s reacted to. She said it’s like his body has gone into overdrive and produced all this greasy dandruffy type skin. She gave me a sulpher wash but reckons it...

Thank you. He wasn’t fed at all till about 2 weeks ago and I’ve started him on some linseed oils, chaff and a vit supplement. Hoping that may help

What were the first signs of sweetitch if your horse has it?

I’ve treated him several times for lice so would be shocked if it’s that (always me first point of call) It’s like the skin is quite scaley in these patches? Like lizards skin? 😂

What were the first signs of sweetitch if your horse has it?

These are more under his mane or on the mane line rather than rubbing his mane. I’ve now got my vet coming tomorrow as I’ve treated for lice, ring worm, fungal etc and it’s still there. Will report back

What were the first signs of sweetitch if your horse has it?

I’ve had a youngster before who developed it and it was so severe she ended up being pts few years later, couldn’t keep her in consistent work, lived a life of misery. Hence my dread. He’s never been rugged at all ever so a boett would take a lot of getting used to plus he is still so hairy...

What were the first signs of sweetitch if your horse has it?

I’ve posted a couple of times about my 2yr old and his skin. Thought it was lice, then maybe ring worm/fungal thing, but have treated for both and no different really. It started on his face with bald patches, and some patches along his mane line and now some patches in his armpits. Vet was out...

    Pelvis Fracture

I had a pony as a child that had fractured his pelvis. He was a complete arse to ride. Not sure whether that was a part of it. Was sound though although no hard jumping. My friends horse fractured her pelvis on the race course. Recovered sufficiently to do riding club and now on loan to a...

    Spring splat season

Buttercups wouldn’t melt?! Yes I almost died out hacking the other day. Haven’t ridden him since! All because someone was walking the other side of the death heave. How dare they. It was so bad someone from the yard had to come and help me walk him home. Not cool

    Need to bath 2yr old-tips?!

I have a couple somewhere yes so that’s a good idea. I need to do his stable first so by the time that’s done it will be next week which looks a bit warmer. I haven’t tried a rug on him yet and don’t actually have one for him (🙈) but have various blankets etc. Have looked for a spray type thing...

    Need to bath 2yr old-tips?!

My 2 yr old seems to have ring worm or some sort of fungal thing going on. He really needs a bath with some anti fungal shampoo. Thing is it’s really cold here at the moment. He isn’t rugged and lives out. Does he need to be lathered head to toe? I’m worried I won’t get it all out.. don’t want...
