Livery yards - a bit of market research

Just doing a bit of market research (again!):p Just wondering what people would be expecting to pay livery wise at a yard with top class facilities including 3 arenas with one of them being a cross country arena with water and steps etc, year round turnout, American barn style...

    Livery around Scunthorpe?

Yes I understand it isn’t quite Leicestershire but it’s swings and roundabouts because everything is cheaper in the area. What are the going rates for full and part livery do you know?

    Livery in Scunthorpe

I did one of these posts a while ago about Sleaford but now looking at Scunthorpe. Just wondering what the demand for livery is like in the area. Considering opening a yard close to Winterton/Brigg for full and part livery. I realise the prices in the area seem to be somewhat cheaper but yard...

    Sleaford People??

I am just doing a bit of research at the moment to see what the interest would be in a livery yard in the area between Sleaford and Grantham offering full and part livery with excellent facilities, fantastic hacking and top care? Just seeing if it would be worth doing in the area... what is the...

Lorry to rent for the summer?

It’s ok - somebody has kindly offered to loan me theirs for the summer. Seems there are some kind people left in the world after all!

Lorry to rent for the summer?

Thank you for the replies. Unfortunately I can’t hire a 3.5 tonne box as my horse hates them. I would love to buy my own and then just rent to others but currently do not have the funds to do this. I just thought it might suit somebody who hunted during the winter and then their box just sits...

Lorry to rent for the summer?

I'm really wanting to be able to get out and about this coming season and do a bit of a competing with one of my horses, and I'm also planning on producing a couple of horses over the summer so having transport would be a real plus point. Myself and a few people at my yard have been talking...

Tell me I’m not being mean?

No, definitely not! It's been really warm this week. I've got a cob at my yard who has had a blanket clip and although he is in at night, he is still unrugged.

Feeding the older pony during winter

Allan and Page Calm and Condition is great for weight gain and also easy to eat as it is fed soaked - is lovely when fed warm when it's really cold too!

Can someone please explain to me why horses are better kept in as much as possible, because I just don't get it!

I run a small livery yard and most are still out 24/7. I have three in overnight and out during the day at the moment - one because she is recovering from an injury and the other two are coming in to keep her company overnight - I can't just bring the one in else the other one will be on her own...

    Friesians...

What can you tell me about them? I have a new livery who is a pure bred Friesian and I can't say I know any awful lot about the breed characteristics etc!

What has happened to searching old threads?

Glad not just me! I've just had to start a new thread as can see on search results that others have posted about same topic in past but am not unable to see those posts. :(

    Common Hogweed

I have found what I *think* is Common Hogweed in one of my new fields (no horses have been in it yet). Am I correct in thinking this is poisonous to horses and needs removing? Is this different to Hemlock? Some of it has flowered and some is large clumps of leaves low to ground. Haven't got a...

    Those who run livery yards...

When I say ?hidden? costs I don?t mean I didn?t know about them - of course I did! I mean I didn?t realise quite how expensive buying bedding in bulk still is. Extortionate prices tbh for shavings etc and having straw is just not practical as muck heap is a trailer I have to pay to have removed...

    Those who run livery yards...

I am starting in October and yes doing full and part livery. I?m charging the going rates for around this area but I am renting the yard so quite a bit is going on rent and I have 10 stables but am not full yet. It?s the hidden costs like the bedding cost in winter; muck heap removal and...

    Those who run livery yards...

What ?extra? things do you do to increase your overall profit? Eg hiring out your school to the general public etc? Looking like I?m going to need to do more than just offer livery to cover costs and pay myself!

    The Ludo Logbook

Definetely describes my Appy! He notices if anything is out of place on any of our hacks but once he has seen it once he's fine. But we do do the dramatic snorting etc - and he is now 19!

Rather jealous reading this as I haven't much to Hunt this Season now my boy is semi retired and I haven't got a hunting job this season!

Is nothing selling? wrong time of year?

I had a horse on sales livery for a few months and had to send him back to the owner in the end as the market was so dead. This was even after a 1k price drop! Horse was a general allrounder/hacker so no world beater but I had lots of time wasters; people that couldn't ride and people who wanted...

    prascend side effects?

Depression is the main one and also loss of appetite. Myself and my Vet made the executive decision to NOT give my elderly mare Prascend. She went off her food and became increasingly difficult to handle due to not wanting to take it and so at 26 I have decided to just monitor her. Her levels...

    How many of you would...

No, my own horse's are with me for life. My main horse is now 19 and arthritic but still enjoys his hacking. I very much enjoyed our many years of Show Jumping and Hunting and would love to be out there this Season flying over whatever was in our path but I have accepted he is no longer able to...

If your horse was human, how would you describe them?

Puggy - A bit of a thug at first sight but secretly a wimp and a big softie. He would probably be like a naughty schoolboy. Alfie - A mummy's boy. Always trying his best and wanting to please. Pixie - A batty old woman who is a bit neurotic and sometimes gets in a bit of a flap but...

    Straw Pellet Bedding

I think they work better generally with a combination of another bedding such as Shavings. They are absorbent but the I found that they were quite dusty unlesss your horse is very wet and then you end up having to use a lot of them!
