    Advice needed for difficult mare

Hi, if there are a few of you at this yard, is there another horse that doesn't mind being in on its own that you can bring in with yours when you tack up and ride, then you can turn both out again when you have finished, I have to do that with my horse's companion as she won't stay in the field...

    Turning Out after Box Rest

when vet said I could turn out, I took my horse for a walk first, and grazed in hand while his field companion went out and got settled to eating some grass/hay, then when I got back from short walk (he was a calm horse anyway) I popped lunge line on held similar to a headcollar rope, then let...

    Turning out after box rest.

Hi I have just turned out my horse after box rest, it wasn't as long as yours but I started by taking him for a few walks up and down our quiet lane in is headcollar, he is very sensible but a bridle would do too, letting him hand graze, did that for a couple of days, then took him in the field...

Best way of managing weight over summer

I have two 16.3 horses on 2 acres I split them in 4 sections, then they have a 'bald' section that they go into at night with hay, walk in to a section with some grass to keep them happy during the day, then other 2 sections are resting and alternate them as the grass grows, so all sections get...

Too cold to ride? Yay or nay

Hi, Quite agree, why go if you don't enjoy it, don't need to, and haven't got a nice cosy indoor school to use, we can only hack out so riding is a no no just now, I managed to get out on Saturday, but its too risky on the snow and ice to even think about it just now, horses are toasty warm in...

    Fal Pro Rugs

I always use falpro and swear by them, bought a second hand one about 20years ago and its still going strong, I find them a bit small to size so go up a size, i.e if you normally have 6'3 go to 6'6, the hoods are slightly smaller but are a nice snug fit. I have two Viking, a bulldog, and the...

    Preventing Horses from Being Stolen

Very good ideas and tips, if you are using electric fencing be sure to hide your energiser units, my friend has had three taken over the years as they are so easy to remove, they also took the batteries.
