‘bullet’ ? police dog training thingy ?

there is an object hung on the collar that theb dog can pick up and hold or bite... anyone seen them and know what they are? are they called a bullet?

Do you mean a "bringsel" - alternatively an Norwegian bringsel?

Used in search and rescue training (not just police dogs) - the dog takes the "bit" in the mouth when the "lost person" is found and runs back to the handler to report the find.

Mmmm, thanks, it could be one of those.

Basically, something to train the dog to ‘hold’ and divert its excitement onto instead of barking in a highly stimulating environment; eg ringside at agility. I like the idea...
