Found an advert on a horsey website selling a 6' MW-HW turnout rug with neck rug attached. The girl is asking £20 for it (£11 for p&p and £9 for the rug itself) She would have to post it as we live miles away from each other. It needs cleaning and repairing as the buckle on the neck rug is broken. I'm after a rug for my cob who lives out 24/7. I've asked more info about it as to whether its mw or hw and she just e-mails back saying inbetween, she's not sure! - which makes me a bit unsure! I've seen a pic of the rug and it doesnt look bad. Would you go for it? or do you think it's risky buying rugs off a horsey website where i couldnt get my money back or the risk that they may send me nothing?

It doesnt sound dodgy!

I am selling one myself, for £25, med/heavyweight...280g,wug style.....pay by paypal if you are unsure. there are bargains out there, mine is brand new, just dont need it!

Ask Scarynight wht she thinks of buying from members of forums!!!

NOT a great experience...as i believe she is still out of pocket!!

Almost all my rugs have come from eBay and they've all been great - they have always been brand new though. Is the website a reputable one, and do they provide help if there are problems once the seller has your money?

I'm selling a rug on Ebay at the moment, and put a starting bid on of £5. There's nothing wrong with the rug and it's just been cleaned and reproofed, but I don't need it any more. There are bargains out there, but you need to be careful. I'd say if you're not sure, then don't buy - there are loads of rugs on Ebay that are good value and you've got a bit more protection.

If you pay by paypal you're usually always covered.

assumed, wrongly, when i read the "horsey website"...

I'm confused too, is this from Forum Board, an advertising website or ebay?
Second hand rugs don't normally fetch high prices, so I think it could be OK.

Not sure if i can mention the website but it's a website for advertising horses/equipment/clothing etc etc. Not ebay. Just a horsey website with a advertising page.

It depends on the make of the rug. You could pay £40-100 for a fal ar £30 -60 for a rambo. I would check out the make and then compare to new prices. If there is not much in it i would go for new.

BTW Paypal does not necessarily mean security.

<font color="peru">I wouldn't pay £20 if it needs repairing and cleaning unless it's by a brand such as FAL/rambo that'd cost a lot new. If it's by a cheaper brand it may work out to be quite expensive for a second hand one by the time you're done fixing it up - maybe almost enough to have bought it brand new!

We got our full neck MW rhino wug for £20 second hand in great condition. You just have to bargain hunt! Also, really reccommend the HW Niksi rugs, and you can usually pick them up brand new on ebay fairly cheap
