Ha ha, not anymore!
Although I have a while to convince myself that hat height really isn't very big
ETA: It's an up and coming YR class. It says that horses and riders who take part in the class must be estalised combinations, so do nag and I have to have won a certain amount or something along those lins to be able to compete?
I have competed in quite a few 1.15cm classes and the JO is normally the size of a Foxhunter. This of course depends on the type of show you are at. Some of the bigger shows build stronger courses, not bigger just more technical.
In all my time competing (a very long time), i have never jumped a 105cm that has finished up 125cm in the jump off. Where on earth do you compete?????
the law says that under 125cm, the jo should go up 10cm...
but as mentioned before, if it is followed by a fox, then it is unusual to go above 120cm...
having said all that... at big shows i bet you will be jumping 120cm in the first round of a 115cm open anyway...!
Ive only done a few 1.15's but Id say the JO was no bigger than Foxhunter. And as for a 1.05m JO being 1.25m - I think thats insane and if that happened at one of my locals there would be a HELL of a lot of complaints!!
very much doubt a 1.05 would end up being 1.25, no offence but thts the most stupid thing iv heard in quite a while, think some people have obvious problems with accessing height.
As I can actually read and jumps have heights on the wings - I not actually as stupid as you think I am. They even have extra bits of tape to mark the heights as well.

oh gosh, i didnt mean to sound rude, i wasnt saying you couldnt read, just questioning your ability to judge height from afar.never mind, no harm done.
That would put me off jumping Newcomers. I am currently jumping BN and Discovery and have £98 noitonal on our card.
Some builders do build higher as at Weston Lawns, the 1m open looked big, but then at Hargates (Burton), the 1m looked small. It depends on the jumps they have too as WL looked more solid and square whereas at Hargates some looked flimsy.
They call the heights up to Foxhunter (inc) amateur, so why do they build a lot bigger than you would be practising at home for your class height. They are supposed to build to encourage, but like I`ve said in previous posts, they don`t like to get many clears
i think because some course builders are numb in the head & the only way they know to get a result is to up the heights... damn stupid in my humble opinion...!
Well, to call Foxhunter an 'Amateur' class is pretty dumb in itself. Okay, Amateur classes might go to 1.20m (the height of a Fox 1st round)...but the Foxhunter Championship is THE Novice horse championship in the world, and ALL the pro's want to win it. Let's not forget that to get to the Foxhunter Final you have to be highly placed in a Foxhunter Regional Final....the final jump off (3rd round !) of which can reach 1.45m/1.50m
You WILL find stronger courses and you will find easier ones. You must also remember that some courses LOOK bigger than they actually are. The surface makes a huge difference, as does the start list. Every cousebuilder wants a good contest, and just because our horses don't jump well on a given day doesn't mean they got it wrong
If the jump off of a 1.05m has gone up that big then the course builder should be reported to the BSJA as it is a breach of the rules and so incredibly dangerous!! I've never heard of such a thing and I've been jumping BSJA for 15 years.
Imagine you have a baby in their first 1.05 and then they are expected to jump the same height as a foxhunter jump off.
I've never met a reputable course builder build above the guidelines and to be honest anyone who does should be struck off, I'd most certainly complain!
not had a standard 'lower' class go up more than about 10/15cm before but I have had some other classes that shall we say started well over their advertised heights. I look to many 1m20/1m25 GPs that were 1m30+ the majority of the way round due to the high number and quality of starters. The biggest height difference from schedule I have personally seen was the 1m25 classic at the blue chip finals about 5 years ago. The first fence i think was the only one at or below 1m25 the majority was about 1m30/1m35 and as they made it into a 2 phase (over 100 entries and easier to name the 'names' who weren't in the class) the jump off was made noticeably higher again with all at 1m40+ lets just say I was very glad to have a pole in the first section (was there for the Performance final on Daniel who had only done a handful of 1m25s at the time
