Can anyone explain to me these levels in eventing? Are they graded in relation to Novice, Intermediate or Advanced? How do you qualify for each? Also are they relative to 1 day or 3 day events?

Each star relates to the level - so a CCI 1* (concours complet international) is a novice level 3 day event run under FEI rules
2* equiv to Intermediate
3* equiv to Adv
4* international - ie Burghley, Badminton, Lexington, Olympics

you qualify by jumping clear rounds XC at the relevant level plus one at the level higher - you have to have a minimum number of points (10 to do a CCI1* for instance) to show an allround level of competence!

The stars refer to FEI events. I think a 1* is novice level, 2* intermediate, 3* advanced but I'm no expert. As far as how you qualify goes - it's complicated. Suggest you have a look at the FEI website and check out the rule book. There are CICs and CCIs, some are 3 day and some are 1 day. Good luck :)

They are all international events run under FEI rules and horses would need to be FEI registered to compete.

CCIs are three day events, CICs are one or two day events with slightly reduced requirements eg XC is shorter.

1* - Novice
2* - Intermediate
3* - Advanced
4* - Championship

Qualification is complex, though I've been told sane people rarely make it!

You actually don't have to have done a XC round above the level anymore, you just have to do more runs at the level (so for 1* you don't have to do an Intermediate, you just have to do a certain number of Novices with a qualifying result.) Also there is no minimum number of points required, my mare went very well at 1* with only 5 BE points. I also know of a horse regularly competing at 2* that actually has no points at all!!!!!
