how many of you only put on stud hole in each foot? and how many put two? or do you do something completely different?
farrier has recommended 1 but instructor has recommened 2
have heard stories about both so just wanted to make sure i was doing the right thing

Well until today I always had two in each shoe (now I have none cos I'm not competing any more) My farrier always said better to have two to stop the foot twisting as it hit the ground, but there are arguements both ways!

I have two in each foot, as I feel with the right sized studs (not to big) the horses foot can still move / twist. Where as with one stud the foot has to twist if that makes sense. But there are equal arguments for both, no definat right or wrong as far as I know?!
Its all down to personal choice, once you have heard both sides

I always wear 2. I think one stud just encourages the horse to spin on it, 2 studs prevent this.

Me too. Although you could debate this to the end of the earth! It's very much a personal decision, everyone has different ideas.

However, I cannot understand the point of putting in one - if the ground is a little hard - how can the horse be balanced? Also the twisting thing - not worth it imho - always two holes each foot.

2 in each front one, always.
1 in each hind IF the horse twists his fetlock in the stance phase (many do), to reduce shearing forces. 2 in each hind if he doesn't. you can see this really easily if you get someone to lead horse away from you.

i use 2 in each.
know some people who only put one in the back as if horse has quite close action behind can cut the other leg with the inner stud if its a big pointy one

1 all round to reduce the chance of cutting the other leg with the inside stud, although I'm probably paranoid 'cause mine manage it 'studless' anyway! The other thing to think about is ever when you are waiting around at a show or rally does your horse move sideways and catch one foot with another, this is another reason I don't bother with inside studs, my mare is a liability with them!

I now have two in front and one in back,

always used to have 1 all round but horse now has arthritis in left fore coffin and fetlock and right fore knee so farrier advised two for more balance and lest rotation/twist on these joints - he also has double toe clips on front now.
