Getting excited as it won't be long until (all being well, soundness permitting etc etc) we head off to our first 1*!!

I'm aware that you don't have to wear topper n tails and good old black jacket and beagler will do, but I was wondering whether most people do go posh?

And also, does one have to get tarted up for the trot ups, or is that only at Badders and Burghley??!!!

And also, the Marquess of Cholmondley has invited all competitors to a cocktail party on the Thursday night - how jolly super!! But what does one wear? Will my old taffeta Laura Ashley do, or must I actually buy a new frock for the first time in 20 years?

Oh, do help, I'm in a frightful state about it all!!

Hurrah!

1. tails etc in dressage - at Necarne last year there were v few ordinary jackets. However don't panic - there was a lot of sharing going on.
2. trot-up - there was a competition for best dressed man/lady so everyone was v glammed up. For ladies - a smart fitted jacket and trousers was the prefered option.
3. cocktail party - haven't a clue.

All the best

Fiona

Oh my word!! Now you've said that, I can't possibly go in my ordinary jacket!! Don't want to stand out!!

Trot up - OK, will pack a pair of non-jeans and a jacket.

Am thinking of Necarne later on this year if all goes well - what's it like?

Don't know about the rest but definitely not the taffeta Laura Ashley number, presumably with the frilly puffed sleeves and big bow!!!

Normally at the cocktail do's, smart-casual goes (or trot up outfit!) with the girls getting out the lippy, perfume and mascara!

Necarne is a lovely event. Usuallly there would be some sort of deal with Stena as well, so that the ferry doesn't cost as much. Most years there are both CIC and CCI options. The course is hilly though.
Re the jackets - there was lots of sharing going on, some tail coats did about 6 tests!!!

I'd definitely go for the top hat and tails, but you don't have to - although i'm sure you'll really enjoy wearing it too....

Trot up - as glam as you like, you get people in black trousers/nice top/jacket. And others in skirt and jacket, in the summer dresses etc. Something smart that you can run in!

Cocktail Party - ususally you can get away with smart jeans and nice top. Certainly don't need to be a lot more dressed up than that, they're pretty informal really, would look overdressed in a dress i would say but if you were desparate to wear a skirt you'd get away with it!

I did my first 1* at Westonlast year and didn't wear top and tails. I would say aboth 3/4 did though. I didn't feel out of place though.

Trot was generally smart but not 4* standard!

When i did the CCI* at Blair god knows how many years ago, pretty much everyone was in top hat/tails (apart from myself and my friends hehe)

trot up, i wore jeans and a smart top, but felt under dressed.. smart top was ok, but i wouldn't wear jeans..

party, whatever you're comfey in!!

which 1* are you off too??

Good Luck!!!

Sounds like Houghton Hall.......i was aiming there but am now rerouting to Blair i think. Will go to Houghton for the eventers grand prix, there's more prize money for that than there is in the CCI anyway!!!
