This is my (just 5 this month) TB mare. She has had a bit of a story to tell with being passed around through sales and dealers untill she came to me, very skinny and covered in rain scald.
I have had her exactly 1 yr, it has been a battle to keep the weight on her through the bad winter we had. I think she finally ALMOST looks how she should now :)
I plan to keep her where she is now, shes so much happier than shes ever been :) shes working really well now and is excelling in her flat work, its really starting to come together and am convinced its all because shes happy and feeling good about her self :)
What do you think?

The day she arrived - JULY 2009

Looking a bit better after being on good quality grass and feed- AUGUST 2009

Then her weight stayed the same as she was living out, despite the extra feed, well rugged, shelter etc and hay she was having. This was taken in November 2009 - she had an accident in the field shortly after this pic was taken which led to colic, she was then stabled for the rest of winter.

Now stabled during the night and out of a daytime (at this point she hated being in and got very stressed, she did have a friend in the next stable but she was only content when she was out, had a battle trying to keep her in.
She then got a nasty kick which caused her to loose weight again! nightmare. I had lots of advice about feeding from lots of people and my vet but almost everything i gave her sent her loopy.
This was taken at the end of feb - now in work again but still underweight. Now stabled at a livery yard for approx 2 weeks, she seems very settled now :)

Yes its taken a long time :) i started feeding her baileys no 1 which seemed to work well without hyping her up. I plan to start feeding it again around october time throughout the winter and see how she gets on :)
The good thing is though although she is getting fitter shes still really laid back and quiet for a TB! :)

sounds like it has been a bit of a long haul for you, paying off now though, she is looking really well. Once she has some decent muscle on her she will be lovely.

Looks much better now but iv seem far worse tbs than in the first pic. To the point I could put my hands behind the mares rib cage and no top line at all. Well done she looks nice now I love my tbs
