Although Henry Cecils horse Jaqelines Quest was first across the line - a stewards enquiry has revised the result.

Very upsetting for all involved to lose the race in that manner.

This means Special Duty the french favourite is now the winner

The 2 horses in 1st and 2nd were neck and neck to the line -JQ only won it by a short head BUT the stewards have deemed that JQ drifted into SD thus hampering the filly.

Results have been amended to reflect this - very sad to JG owners, specially after hearing his interview :-(

Oh i saw the race!
I just don't see how they can say that, it's very unfair!

Especially after it was announced and everything grrrrr.

Gonna be some angry punters too! :p
Think the bookies paid any 66-1 out before it got reversed? lol

It may be unfair to the owner of the now second placed horse, but rules of racing are there to be adhered to by jockey and trainer alike.
Stipendiary steward William Nunneley gave a very frank interview post race to explain why the placings had been altered. It was the correct decision in my opinion. Whether I had backed the winner or not ( in this case I had) it makes no difference to me. While the enquiry was taking place I even said to my other half -who knows pretty much nothing about racing- that it would be a travesty if Special Duty was not awarded the race. Jockey Tom Queally aboard the second horse Jacqueline Quest has also got a 3 day ban for his troubles for careless riding. Stewards were right on both counts if I am to be frank on this. Special Duty was hampered severely by the original winner. Queally's mount was drifting right under a right hand drive. He should have kept the stick in that hand but instead pulled his whip to the to left hand making his filly drift even more to the right and carry Special Duty across with it. Horses bumped together in the closing stages. Stephane Pasquier ( SD) almost lost his balance on the original second and you can clearly see the jockey's legs widen and move near the line as he tries to keep it as Queally's mount continues to drift across impeding his chances. Only a nose separated them at the line and it wasn't too difficult to see that Special Duty's chance of winning was affected by the actions of the Cecil horse and his jockey.

Well its not how anyone wants to win (or lose) any race - especially not a classic.

IMO, JQ was the best filly on the day - and i think to say she "severely" hampered SD would be quite wrong. She did however drift badly - and Queally did not attempt to stop her - infct he had just changed his whip over. This drifting did enable her to win - by having a challenger upsides her egging her on. Did her bump with SD affect the latters running? I dont think so - re-run the video and there is absolutely no change in stride, of the runner-up. SD did however look to have more in the tank, but at no stage did she look like she intended to use it. SD is definitely the classier horse - but wasnt on the day.
In France - any "hampering" is an instant cause for reversing th order (and often theres more than a neck between one and two). Not so in the UK.

My personal opinion is that the stewards made the wrong decision - however thats their perogative. I did think his explanation of why was a bit narrow - did not really seem to compare and contrast possible outcomes if you know what I mean. (cant really explain it)
