101 uses for a Shetland

The Shetties across the road to our yard did a lovely job this morning of controlling the traffic when they escaped......ok, maybe not controlling the traffic so much as stopping it dead.....

And did well at keeping two of our liveries fit by having them chase them up and down the road trying to catch them....

Aw that is such a sweet story! I don't really like Shetlands, they scare me, but I do like Norman!

Hmmmmm Well you could have a few on a horse (as apose to pony) stud and turn them out just as some youngsters are being brought in from another field AND when some potential clients turn up to look round. Youngsters having never seen Shetties before are totally spooked by them and the new girl at the stud lets hers go, which really sets off the other 4 youngsters, 3 of which also get loose. So 4 loose youngsters and one trying to kill it's handler in an effort to get free (yep, that was me). Youngster still attached to person eventually put in stable, other 4, with the help of the clients (

) rounded up a mile away, on someone else's yard, having jumped some formidable hedges to get there!! Potential client ends up buying 2 of the youngsters, as very impressed with their jumps

So I guess you could say that they are good for sales/marketing??!

I use mine to drag fallen timber up the field. And long rein him round an arena to learn my dressage tests - the canter parts just about kill me!

He also makes a great clothes horse, for chucking all your jackets and stuff on when he's wandering round the yard.

He's a great handwarmer on cold days - all that lovely thick mane to stick your hands under!

And best of all, when taking him for 'walkies' in the woods, and you get to a wet patch, you can hop aboard for a lift to keep your feet dry!

I also knew a shettie called Norman. He was Stormin Norman after the falklands commander.
He used to come to PC.
