My Goddaughters pony is a 12.2hh welsh B. He works well but falls behind the bridle - and she finds him fairly strong when he does. Any tips? I have tried transitions, polework, etc.

What is he in currently? What is his mouth conformation like?

That would have helped wouldnt it! He is in a single joint eggbut snaffle which is medium thickness. He has a small mouth and is quite finely built...will try to find a pic

He is actually going quite well here but he falls behind the bridle and pins his head to his chest, especially in cater. I sat on him yesterday and he did it with me!!

Mine prefer a double jointed bit. He used to get hit in the roof of his mouth by the joint so he went behind the bit, i think. I switched and he was much better once he realised it didn't get caught by it anymore.

Might not be your problem but it's a suggestion :D

I would agree with what schneeko says, horses/ponies often drop behind the bit due to discomfort in the mouth. Be that being jabbed with a single joint, large tongue being squashed with a french link, heavy hands putting pressure on the mouth etc.
Whatever bit you use I would def loose the single link. If he has a large tongue (with his usual bit and bridle on, does his tongue bulge out between his teeth at the side?) then I would tend to avoid a french link with a plate as it can give a bit much tongue pressure. In that case I would use a french link with lozenge, idealy with a bit of shape (liek the neue schule / cotswold sport tongue saver type ones - there are cheaper ones around too if you have a hunt). Second last bit on this page looks just the ticket Lozenge Eggbutt With Small Ring http://www.olddairysaddlery.co.uk/acatalog/Snaffles.html

He hasnt got a large tounge but have just thought knowing GD's dad he has never had his teeth looked at so I will get those done - and invest in a lozenge bit this weekend :D
