Where is the best place to get one and how much should I expect one to set me back?

Spent £160 this morning on fence energiser, stakes, tape etc and now just need the battery!

go to a motor factor and get a battery for a mini. an 063 i think. should be about £25 and you normally get a two year warranty. thats just over a pound a month and they normally do longer than 24 months anyway

If you want your battery to keep the fence working for a long time between chargings then buy a leisure battery. These are the type of battery that are fitted to caravans. You should be able to get one for around £30-£35. A car battery will work for a while but they are designed to give a high discharge for a short peiod i.e. for starting a car. They are not designed for the slow discharge that is required for powering an electric fence.

I charge my fence battery probably every 3 months or so. Also keep it in a plastic waterproof box to keep the weather off it.

Same as Toby_Zaphod. Leisure batteries are what you want and I also cover mine over in a plastic box ! Which blew away yesterday in the winds so need to get another one.....
