In my quest for a new horse I am rather taken with a 3 year old Connemara. He’s 147cms now. Whats that in hands? I am useless as my last pony went overheight and so I stopped measuring or caring about heights and that was years ago. If he’s 147cms now, whats he likely to mature at? I’ve tried working it out and 147cm seems like 15hh? Is my maths worse than I thought?:D

ok, so I've sussed it out, 147cm is a sniff under 14.2, and 148 is the breed max. So he is more than likely going to go over height as he's 147 now as a 3yo. Still going to go and see him as I like the look of him.

So many connies seem to go over height.

is the person who measured him a showing person or have they been a pony showjumper? If not and they have measured him as 147cms, he will probably measure nearer 145cms. JMB does not measure the pony as we would on a stick. The vets allow the ponies to relax and the pony is often 1 or 2cms smaller when relaxed.

She's a showing person, and I think he's probably only for sale as he's going to go over height as I know her vaguely and am pretty sure she'd be keeping him if he was definitely not going to go over.

Going to see him on Sat so will let you know how we get on and if I fall in love I'll post pics!:D

Prob right then. I have met loads of '14.2hhs' . I doubt half of them would have been 14hhs in reality.
Looking forward to piccies.

My last connie had a life height certificate saying he was 147.8cm, which was a joke, he was 15hh! I could never have done a 14.2hh and under jumping class, I'd have been asked to leave, he was huge! I'll let you know how big this one really is when I've seen him!
