Think I am looking of the impossible, if anyone fancies looking or knows of one. Looking for a 16.3 plus smart hunter capable of jumping meynell country, budget up to £8000. Must be over 6 years and under 12 years, nothing too inexperienced. Does not have to any other job and can offer a five star private home with full time hunt groom! Having looked in all the usual places H and H , horsequest etc it seems that their are very few big horses for sale and any that fit the bill are £10000 +!!! Thanks :)

Should be perfectly achievable for the money, but not the best time of the year to buy a hunter. Most hunters will be turned out to grass at the moment, there were a few hunters of the spec you wanted for sale towards the end of last season which is the best time to buy a hunter as you can try them (I bought one!). I would be very cautious of buying a hunter without being able to actually try it hunting.

Good luck

Try DoneDeal.ie there are plenty of hunters on it at the moment or you can put a wanted notice on it and see what replies you get. Its a buyers market over here at the moment and as a result there are plenty of genuine horses available on DD.

Are you looking for a weight carrier? I have a 17hh RID gelding - 9 years old but low mileage (he was a stallion until he was 6.) I kept him on to train as a hunter for husband who's now given up hunting. He's only had a few outings - but behaved well - and very good hacking in company.

Should be able to find something easily for that.

Personally I've never spent or wanted to spend more than £1500 on a hunter, and i've had some cracking horses, but then again I'm from Yorkshire!
