I know an ifor 505 is to fit 2 x 16.2 horses. Just wondered whether it would be safe for a 16.3 to go in on her own without the partition? Would she even fit?

Looking at a new horse but just thinking about travelling arrangements as I only have a 505, so I presuming I will have to hire a 510 until I can afford to upgrade to one.

Personally, Iwouldn't, would try for a 510, but there is 16.3 and there is 16.3. If she is quite compact and does not have a high head, then she may well be fine. Worth trying her in it to see, but expect to have to go for the 510.

my 16.3 fits , he is quite chuncky but compact , he is an excellent loader & traveller & i use poll protection just in case , having said that if you are buying a trailer i would definately get the 510 with extra haedroom for a horse of that height

I used to have a 505 and travelled a friends 16.2 a fair few times with the partition in and next to my 16hh mare. He fitted in but there wasnt much head room and he always looked very cramped ( although he travelled perfectly well), and unloading he had to keep his head low or would have hit it on the metal bar above the front ramp!
I think it just depends on the horse, you could open all the doors without the partition in and load and see how things look.
Good luck

i have a 16.1hh - he fits OK but the headroom is low and he looks snug. If he throws his head very high he will catch the roof. Length and width wise fine

I have a 16.3 who knows he has to snug his bum in and put his head down. I have only done it for short journeys and dont thinkits great - if you have another option i would take it.

I managed to squeeze a supposed 17hh in mine not ideal though, however, it was a mercy mission to the vets so I guess we could be forgiven in this circumstance

Thanks everyone, yes I already have a 505 and this would just be to pick the horse up, but i won't risk it, I'll hire a 510 and then look at part exchanging my 505 when I can afford it.

Thanks for the replies : )
