As title really - has anyone travelled a 17.1 in a 403 single horse trailer. I am moving from a lorry to a trailer and really don't want to buy a two horse trailer to take just one horse. I am asking around friends to see if anyone has a 403 we can try her in but most have either lorries or two horse ones..

I just want to do lots of research beforehand

Personally I think that would be very unfair to expect your big horse to squeeze into a single trailer. I have just bought a IW HB510 for my 2 which are 15.1 and 16.2 as I want them to have as much space as possible.

The only time I ever travelled a big horse in a single trailer was about 20 years ago. The horse only ever went in the trailer once and flattly refused ever again after that.

Ifor single trailers are suitable for a mare+foal, so unless we are talking super shire size +, I can't see any reason why 1 big horse should not fit! It has the same height dimentions, and the same front ramp dimentions of a double and lets face it, the space for 1 horse is the equivalent of 1 and half stalls from a double too. I don't get why people 'grumble' at the thought of their/any horse being squished - it IS really roomy!!

Is it the width or the length of the stall you find a problem - I have compared the measurements from the catalogues and find them very confusing - most of my friends have horseboxes not trailers. Whilst our mare is a 17.1 warmblood she is not as heavy as most - in fact quite finely built just tall and slender! unusual I know :)

Thanks for the info :)

Are you speaking from personal experience RuthnMeg, I have looked at the measurements provided in the catalogue and apart from 6cm height the major concern I have is the length of the stall - is this from the breast bar to the back - especially as the total internal measurement is more than sufficient.

I do have a single ifor, but I only have a max height horse of 15hh! I find there is plenty of room, but personal experience of the length for a 17hander I do not have! I still can't see it being a problem though - unless your horse is VERY long?

I think I need to get down the yard tomorrow with a very long tape measure - she only takes a 6'6 to 6'9 rug (depending on brand) :)
