Ok so this is prob nothing to most of you but im cantering my horse tomorrow properly hve done a few strides in canter before & abit saddle holding on friends horse other day but properly on mine tomorrow what to people recconmend farmers field or field in paddock? Not wanting him to bolt off with me in farmers field ie too much space & he gets excited :/ feeling very excited but abit nervous too but cant wait!!

I feel your pain and understand your "anxiety" and on that basis I would say first time canter somewhere that you/he have boundaries so you have one less worry with progressing to the canter stage (he can't bomb off with you), good luck and enjoy :-)

Please don't have your first canter in a farmers field! Quiet lane, up a slight incline & behind a steady horse!

Good luck

My last ponys first canter was up a steep hill with a hedge on one side and a field on the other.
My current lad well he was cantering under saddle in the school on a 20m circle the 3rd time I ever sat on him, but so far he is the exception to every rule when it comes to young horses
