Our livery yard has just started a riding club which I'm very excited about. I want to get involved in just about everything and anything.

I have my horse on loan and he's a bit of an allrounder. Great to SJ (local level for fun - but he could do more) and he's taken others around xc no probs at all. But I quite fancy having a go at dressage, esp as there should be quite a lot of opportunity to join in with this.

I know very little about dressage so here's where you come in... any recommendations for where to read up on the basics. books? websites? anything else? Thanks.

It would be helpful if you could go along to a local dressage competition and just watch what goes on, what tack and clothes to wear and watch them working in. Find out what tests will be used in your comp and practise. Remember that you will gain marks with the accuracy of each movement, circle etc, and importantly, a straight centre line and halt.

Above all, enjoy the experience and smile at the judge, this will relax you and judges always appreciate it

looks great. a couple of typos but as you say it's a work in progress.

i really liked it. i went into 'beginning dressage' and thought the 'after the test' bit was particularly helpful.

great for people like me.

Thanks

I will have to look for the spelling mistakes, I may as well get whats there corrected, then its down to anyone else who puts things on there to check their own!!

Some RCs run 'HAVE A GO CLASSES' great for new/nervous competition riders who haven't entered dressage before.
Work on your accuracy so that you don't give unneccessary marks away. ENJOY and good look.
