2/10 lame in trot, any ideas?

Hi so my lad is fractionally lame in trot, sound in walk, slightly worse on solid ground, been rumbling for a few weeks now, gotten a touch better, no heat, swelling, soreness on touching, no increase in radial pulse and has been shod last week with no issues. Forgot to mention, is in fore leg only. Any ideas?? Have rulled out abcess as its not typical for an abcess. My feeling is to leave him for another week and re-assess
 
After the last couple of year's I've had the first place I would look if I had a lameness with no obvious cause is at the hoof conformation. Any pictures?
 
Underrun heels and too long in the toe. Only very slight but enough to cause a problem. You wouldn't have said he'd been badly shod to look at him.
 
Wellsat- his toes were a tad long before he was shod as I left him 2 weeks longer than usual and has improved since being reshod so maybe its residual soreness from that?
 
No I haven't as its so fractional and only in trot, I expect he has slipped in field and pulled something and actually I had the back lady out Friday who agreed that she would give him some time to see if he comes sound. Of course if he was lame in walk as well then I would get him checked out. The plan is to re-assess him on the weekend
 
Marydoll- I think its unlikely to be ligament damage as he would be lame in walk as well, had back lady up Friday and she gave him a good going over and couldn't find anything obvious
 
Ive a horse just now sound in straight line in walk, slightly short in trot 1/10 marginally lame 1/10 on circle on the lunge, very sore 2-3/10 on tight circle on hard ground, she has been diagnosed with severe collaterall desmitis, to watch her you'd hardly think there was a problem, just saying they dont need to be crippled lame to have a real issue either present or developing
 
I had an unexplained lameness with my mare, came on one day when turned out, noticed she was a bit reluctant on one hind leg, it seemed to improve as she moved but still wasn't completely right. No heat, no pulse, no swelling, just a reluctance to move properly on it and she was resting it a lot. a few days later she started to improve and less than a week later was absolutely fine. I put that down to a muscle strain, perhaps slipping on the muddy ground after having a hoon around. This was 6wks ago and she's been fine since. Without any obvious cause, I'd just give a bit of time off and see - if its bruising to the foot that should give it time to heal a bit, if its the start of an abscess you may see it get worse and see the other typical signs, if its muscular it should also start to improve - if its none of those then best get the vet to check
 
I had one in my yard that was not lame in walk and barely lame in trot that has ligament damage requiring 6 months rest. In my experience a slight muscle pull, knock or bruising will recover within a week or two anything that goes on for several weeks with no change is a vet job unless you really know what the cause is it is not wise to leave it untreated, it could settle then flare up again.
 
Marydoll-i hope it isn't collateral dismitis, just googled it as haven't come accross it. Think if he is still lamr on the weekend then will take him down to Langford where they can properly assess him, I don't have an arena where I am
 
I had one that was slightly lame. Vets thought it was an abscess. I poulticed, soaked etc and nothing. I called a different practice for a second opinion. It may have started as an abscess but had tracked up and infected his tendon sheath. His tendon was about 50% damaged. He was going to have a tendon flush which would have given him a 5% chance of being field sound. Honestly, from the amount of lameness you wouldn't have thought it was that bad. Please, get yours checked out.

I was devastated as she was my wee horse i evented with, im 5 months in on controlled walking and box, and field rest in a small 14x14 pen in the field as she'd never have coped being in all the time. Vet has asked for LOU as he reckons its so severe, she'll break down if jumped again, but im being forced to wait by the ins company.
I was like you, sometimes i looked and she seemed fine, then id be looking and saying to myself is she or isnt she, :confused: and im $h1t hot at spotting lameness. I really hope your horse has just tweaked something, but if it was me, after this id vet check if not right after a week off.
