So on Saturday the dinosaur and I went to our local venue for an arena event which we done last year but the 60cm instead of the 75cm. Warmed up fab, he was really thinking forward and taking me to fences rather than me always having to hold his hand and carry him round. Clear sj albeit with a sticky moment when he dropped the anchor, smashed my face with his neck and then carried on over the fence with me hanging to his neck
Flew round the xc part, even facing last years demons (torin thought the plain log was terrifying last year), until the second to last fence where torin took a dislike to a brown palisade with white diamonds and were promptly eliminated! The wonderful people who run the show very kindly let me get him over it and jump the last fence. Bit disappointing as we were most likely in the top 3 had it not been for that one fence but there's always another day and he felt really super the rest of the time!
That takes us to yesterday, we went along to Howe for their first ever Show Of Colours which included an evening performance and parade of colours. We started off the day with our first ever open chaps class and although I dont think he is quite ready or of the right quality to contend proper chaps classes it was a good chance to give it a go. Big in-hand class, behaved perfectly - he usually gets very strong and a bit too onward for my legs to keep up - to be pulled in 5th. Completely over the moon, it was such a big class and there were some very seasoned and very impressive horses in there. Second class of the day was the in hand plaited horse, where he again behaved perfectly to be placed 5th again. Quick hour or so for him to chill out and go back on the lorry for a bit before tacking up, warming up and into the chaps open ridden. Again a huge class and although he behaved (we didnt rodeo when asked to extend) xc the day before showing isnt a good idea, he was very strong when cantering however pulled in 6th for another placing in a large chaps class. Last class of the day was the ridden plaited coloured, he was just super and won the class!
Quick change (semi - the theme was bling and colour) for the evening performance with the colour parade being first. They were gathering everyone in colour groups skewbalds, piebalds, roans etc with the skewbalds leading. I felt a huge amount of pride to lead everyone into the main ring as there were only 3 skewbalds forward, Torin took it all in his stride! Next was the championship classes, plaited horse and skewbald, sadly wasnt our day but what a fantastic experience and a well run show with super friendly judges and stewards.

and a couple of videos from our ridden plaited class, still lots to improve on
