2 horses die in drink driving accident!!

There are several inaccuracies in that report, so please be mindful when spreading this story around.

That said, the salient points are true - three people were out hacking, were hit by a driver (who was breathalyzed at the scene and arrested for drink driving) and two of the horses were put down at the scene. One of the people involved is in hospital, awaiting surgery (may well have had it by now), but thankfully all three people are still with us - which is the most important thing of all.

Thoughts to all involved, especially to the family who have lost two very precious horses in such tragic circumstances.

RIP Tubbs, you were one in a million, from the same source as mine, I'm devastated for the family concerned, such a shock. Hope the driver gets dealt with in the most serious way possible, no sympathy for the driver, no excuses for this behaviour.

So Sorry xxxxx

The article in the link was in what i presume is the local newspaper, so OP can hardly be blamed for any inaccuracies.

So where are the inaccuracies?

If the driver had not been drinking, no-one would have been able to blame him for the accident. He deserves to have the book thrown at him - and should think himself very lucky that no human was killed. Unfortunately the riders involved will more than likely carry the emotional scars, never mind any physical ones, for the rest of their lives.

No sympathy for the drink driver - should lose their license for life IMHO. Heartfelt sympathies go out to the riders. Just imagine if this drunk had hit pedestrians...

Pearlsacarolsinger, perhaps you have misunderstood my post, or I was not clear.

I was in no way blaming the OP or saying they were at fault for any inaccuracies. I was simply pointing out that the media, as we see time and again, can report things incorrectly and such inaccuracies can also cause additional upset and disturbance, especially when it comes to people being reported hurt/injured etc.

Although I know the three people involved reasonably well, I do not think it is my place to comment on what I understand to be inaccuracies. I would not be at all surprised if H&H pick up on the story and get the facts (taking the time to check the details with either the police or the people involved), but as I am not a reporter, not a policewoman and not one of the 3 people involved, I am not in a position to say anything in an official capacity. I have no interest in adding to the rumour mill that works so efficiently within the horse world, I just want to make sure that people are aware that what is reported is not always accurate.

You also seem to think that I require a lecture on the dangers of drink driving, almost as though my post read favourably towards that individual. Please let me assure you, I hope that the man who was arrested is brought to justice and feels guilty about what he has done for every day of the rest of his life. What he did was unthinkably stupid and, unfortunately, three people and their horses have had to pay for his idiocy. However, as I said in my previous post - at least all three of the people involved have come away with their lives, that is the most important thing.

OMG, I work at a car insurance company, and I took this claim today. Poor horses. Of course he didn't mention they'd been put down even when I asked how the horses were (before I asked how he was I might add!)

I'm sorry, yes your post did read, to me as though you were supporting the driver. I realise that newspaper accounts can have inaccuracies but actually your summary of the salient points agreed with those in the article. The only point of difference that I can imagine form reading your post and OP's link is the injuries. Which, so long as they are not life-threatening or life-changing, is a minor difference. I'm not sure why you warned OP aganst spreading the inaccuracies.

RIP Horses may you run free.
Thoughts to those involved including family's of the riders.

The driver should be prosecuted for this and put away, licence taken away he has taken away two beautiful horses, ruined the lives of many with his stupidity of having a beer or whatever then thinking its OK to drive...Words actually fail me... :( :(

God hope he doesn't get the payout (insurance) from this either cos he sure as hell don't deserve it.
