Two horses where stolen and one was fatally injured in the theft.

My deepest sympathies to the owner of the horses.

Could I ask for assistance in identifying the trailer and those that stole the horse so that they can be prosecuted and convicted of this terrible crime.

Could I also remind everyone how important it is to have your horses bothFreezemarked and Microchipped and also your horseboxes and trailers postcoded on the roof to aid identification in the event of theft.

if I knew who it was and they were on fire I wouldn't piss on them,

between this and the poor pony that had petrol poured on it and set on fire I despair as the sentences will be totally inadequate if and when they catch any of them.

I saw this post early this morning, and have been trying not to answer ever since.

This is another tragic event, in a series of tragic events this year, where horse thieves end up injuring or killing the horse. Why are the Police publicising this crime? Even if someone saw something or a CCTV / ANPR camera pics up the tow vehicle and its registration number, we all know what will happen. It will lead to a 'well known local family' and absolutely nothing will be done.

The publicity surrounding horse crime is increasing which is a very good thing, as it means owners take extra care, but lets be honest, when was the last time you heard of a prosecution or a conviction? There is even a case in stolen horses of a 'stolen on loan' case, where the horse thief was caught, admitted her crime and was then given a caution! FFS

I am not going to point a finger for these crimes at a particular group of people, but if these thefts of horses and tack were more violent crimes, the Police would be all over them, yet they are just as traumatic (probably moreso) to the poor owner of the horse, who is left continually wondering about the well-being of their horse or pony.

A friend of mine owns a large riding centre, he had a trailer and two quad bikes stolen in the middle of the night. Another close friend is a member of a local 'family'. After he had 'visited' one person, both the trailer and the quads were 'recovered', so please don't tell me nobody knows where these horses are and who is stealing them. It is a fact that convictions are very hard to come by with this sort of crime and in this 'Key Performance Indicator' and 'Performance Statistics' governed society we are now in, if you can't get a conviction, then it just does not get pursued (just see how much interest you get from the Police if your car get stolen or broken into).

I am not cynical, just b**dy angry that these devastating crimes are constantly going unpunished.

Im old enough to be cynical too but these horrid events need to be publicised.

Not every crime is committed by the 'families' which have been alluded too (yes we have them too) and making crimes like this known can only help horseowners to think about their own security.

I can't begin to imagine how distraught the poor owner of those horses must be. A terribly tragic end to a young horses life.

The people who committed this crime are beyond words. I would get booted off for giving my full opinion. All we can do is be vigilant and help each other to protect our horses and hope that the FB's who did this are caught and strung up alive!
