In the light of my forst post about my yard being broken into, We have had two further reports of incidents regarding break ins.

The second was at another yard in Swavesey - prompted by our email from yesterday I had a phonecall from another yard at Swavesey where vandals/theives had broken into a yard store and removed stabling items.

This morning we have been advised that there has been a further break in at a yard in Girton, last night.

During the afternoon before the break in, a white transit van with 2 men in it was seen parked in the driveway of the yard. When approached and asked what they were doing, the men, who were of Irish origin, said they were there to see if anyone wanted to buy some riding boots.

Following this incident the yard owners were extra vigilant, taking headcollars and rugs home overnight. They returned this morning to find that the yard had indeed been broken into, thieves took anything possible including all of the HAY and FEED which was kept in a locked store.

I was also done last night. I am not that far from Girton
The thieving scum took my energiser and batteries which were paddocked up, tape and stakes, my head collars, rugs, feed bins
anything they could carry
Make sure you put your post code on your stuff. It is on my energiser.

I have warned my yard. If you need any energisers I have some - they are the ones that last about 8 months on a battery so you don't have to re-charge them. Let me know if you need something!! x

Oh how awful for you. These people are complete b*st*rds. If you need any tape, I think I've got most of a roll of the blue flat tape somewhere. I've also got 2 spare fairly new f/s headcollars.

We've recently had prowlers & had to spend ££££££ on cctv, bigger chain & padlock for the gate, lots of alarms & a very big dog. Really could do without the outlay just before xmas, but what is the alternative???

What goes around, come around so hopefully they will get theirs one day.

i am not suggesting anything but its a bit of a coincidence that loads of ponies and horses have appeared on the side of the A14 between Histon and Milton and there have suddenly a spate of break ins,
Thank you so much for all your kind offers of gear, I will say no because the thieving scum will only nick it all again

Those ponies on the A14 break my heart - they always seem to be tethered no matter what the weather and I never see them with water

Fortunately, anyone wanting to steal anything from our yard is going to face three major problems:-

1) the mud which will suck the thieves to an early grave
2) the very aggressive colorectal surgeon who lives next door and has a shotgun and doesn't like pikeys or in fact people in general
3) the large and vicious geese that we keep down there!

Bring it on!

Please get ILPH in to check the tethered ponies, dont know about weather near Cambridge but to tether in sub-zero temperatures we have in Scotland would have to be classed as 'unnecessary suffering'. If they are stealing hay and feed perhaps they do care about them--make sure ILPH know what has been stolen please.

Might be a coincidence but we had to call the police last thursday after a white transit van was driving up and down, then round the block, then up and down...from about midnight until almost 3am. They were accompanied by a green citroen xsara (sp?)

We were on alert as we had the equitape and posts taken from our little front paddock the week before. Luckily the paddock was empty, and they only took 5 or 6 posts and the two strands of tape, so less than a roll, but it's still an inconvenience.

I have the incident number etc if it would be handy at all? The policeman said these had been stealing hay and straw and diesel, but didn't know about horse items (I was worried about rugs etc) but I'd have thought if they were having forage and bedding they'd have rugs/tack etc too?

LOL

Oh no, it's a bit close for comfort and I really sympathise, but that thought is interesting! I assume the thefts were overnight? Did the affected yards have anyone living on site? I'm not sure our old dog would even wake if anyone was around at night. Wish it wasn't so muddy here or I'd certainly have geese. I'm sure there's an air rifle around somewhere...

I have just had 2 irish men trying to sell boots in a RED transit van , and asked if I wanted to sell my trailer, I took there reg no and have moved the trailer .
Cheaky so & so saw me take the reg no and stopped and shouted if I had got the number right. I am near Downham Market so quite near the other break ins.

It seems they may have moved onto the Stowmarket area - i have been told of 2 break ins in the area.... seems there were tyre tracks from a large van and a euro was found near where the gate lock was cut at the yard.
