Hi everyone just looking for a bit of advice with regards to tucked up flanks.
Ive got a cobX warmblood mare and a warmblood gelding who were both overweight coming into summer. However since weve had this dry spell for the past month there has been very little grass growth. Both horses dropped weight to a decent size but then both suddenly had tucked in flanks. There is two more mares in the Feild with them one has dropped weight but isnt tucked up but the other hasnt dropped any weight at all. Both horses are up to date with everything and have recently been wormed with Moxidectin. They have both been on a feed for 3 weeks of 1/2 Alfa A oil 1/2 fibre beet 1/4 cool mix (measured with a stubs round scoop) with some linseed oil splashed in but it doesnt seem to have made a difference. Im going to get a feacal and a saliva test done and if no results still Ill get a blood test.
In every other aspect they are both fit and well, not tender round the belly at all and passing normal droppings. My mares urine can be a little dark but shes always been a funny drinker so we have already been monitoring this for the past 3 years anyway with no recent changes.
Am I missing the point with regards to feeding? Should I cut out the hard feed and just swap to ad lib hay? Or both?
Any light on the situation would help, thank you in advance guys!
