start off in lorry this morning after a silly o'clock start, but lorry stops 100 yards down road, so quick unloading of the horses and back up to the yard and we load up again in the trailer.

running late as takes 1h30mins to get to, and leaving at 8am with me on at 9.40am and an hours xc to walk wasnt looking good!!

arrive anyway at tyrella, where it was gale force winds blowing on shore. fun.

walk the xc, which imo was quite a strong 3f3 which had a VERY skinny roll top on the side of the hill, 4 parallels and lots more skinnys, and a bounce fence.going was very slippy and wet, so i was a little nervous setting out due to the lack of stud holes in our shoes...
blush.gif

for those of you who do not know, tyrella has a MASSIVE hill in the middle of the very long course, so is quite tiring for horses!

the sj was interesting, as i hadnt a martingale (which i dont normally use anyways) and it was slippy with tight turns and it was right up to height. had a few jumps as didnt like jumping in the sleet, so went in and got a clear, which merlin was very good as i was a complete numpty imo
blush.gif

put him away for 40mins, and then got out and had to warm up in the hail, which wasnt very nice as it stung!! poor merlin had his head at a tilt because of the hail coming horizontal
frown.gif
but jumped the xc fence a few times and then started on the xc. merlin has only done a few start boxes before, but he was very good and didnt nap and went when i asked him! was amazing
tongue.gif

he went off like a rocket and jumped the first 4 out of his stride and made it look easy
tongue.gif
and then the skinny rolltop (whih i think we measured it about 3f!! across ) which he saw, but then he saw the flags and we were ok! jumped it nicely, and then jumped the next lot perfectly. nice big log up the hill and down it, and a funny cottage thing. he got tired just at the brush fence which was about the 2.5mile mark, but kept on going in his stride and jumped the bounce well (hes never done a fixed one before
blush.gif
) and straight into the water fence with no problem and then there was a cottage thing with a spooky pole on top, and the previous horse before us was having difficulties and got eliminated at it i think, so was trotting away, and i was slightly worried that he would try and follow! neednt have worried really, he saw the fence and jumped it! then was an incredibly narrow table, which a lot of perople ran out at, going by the track marks
tongue.gif

merlin and i took it at a slight angle, he never worried about it and he never felt like he was going to run out! mummy very pleased
grin.gif
and the last fence was a simple log brush thingy which he popped as if it wasnt there
grin.gif

so have no idea if i was placed or not, as left early for once! tried to go in sea, but the gale wind made it a little dificult as merlin kept trying to jump the waves, so we left just in case we got kicked by the other horses that we were with
blush.gif

will try and get photos later as they are not on the website yet. very pleased and cant wait till next sat when out season starts!

300 enteries - dora had to stop at that - they are even running a go as you please tomorrow!!
think i saw your dad there...

probably did, they were there today with littlest one doing 2"3, were you the first class? bet they went til there was no light left!

yeah! lol was the first class, they had the juniors and seniors together so that there was 61 people in the 3f3!!

he was doing the parking

was a good day apart from the weather!
grin.gif

I think it was v unfair. The peeps in the 3'3 class got all the horrid weather, and the afternoon was really quite nice.
My OH got a double clear (couple of time pen though), and he said he could hardly see when he was going XC the rain was so heavy. She was a good mare to jump all those skinnies, and it was an exceptionally long course - opt time was 7 min 4sec, which owuld be long for a novice EI event.
Well done for your double clear - I think there were only about 20 out of 50 odd starters.
There were horses XCing until 6.35 which I think it far too late (if there had been any problems they wouldn't have been able to finish the competition). Hopefully they will not take quite so many entries next year.
Other than that was a nice course and a well run competition.

Fiona

yes, the 3f3 class had the worst weather
frown.gif

hadnt a clue about the opt. time, havent a clue if i was placed or not! left before the results anyhos.
there was ALOT of skinnies werent there? esp. no.23 the narrow table at the end of the course! thats not alot of double clears for the class, although thats probably what the organisers wanted. i think i passed you, was going to say hello except for the fact that i was very late! i was the one on the gaint bay with the red nummnah and top?

that is too long for the comp to go on for, they should restrict the enteries more or at least start the xc sooner. going was very slippy, but at least it held up.

my poor boy has never jumped a proper skinny in his life - what a great way to introduce him to them
tongue.gif
ah well, i was just pleased that he jumped them and didnt back off!
grin.gif

well done to your OH!
do you know the placings? (little hint there if you knew if i was placed
tongue.gif
blush.gif
) doubt it, we are usually quite slow xc!

Not sure - we were back in the lorry park walking mare after washing her when I heard your name on commentary going round, so prob didn't pass each other.

OH actually did the scoring (as well as competing - he only came home at 7.20) so I will ask him for a look at the spreadsheet. There were a lot of quite experienced nov horses there so I imagine they would be the ones to get placed, but I did think OH looked a bit slow when he came past me so not surprised he wasn't inside the time.

Are you going to first event at Dundalk next Saturday?? It is really nice for early season, and not hard to get to. If so we will meet up then!!

Fiona

yep, going to dundalk! will defo have to meet up! what class are you doing?

ah thank you! that was a late finish for him then
tongue.gif

a lot of my friends were eventing their ponies that are pony** level, but loads of them had run outs at the skinnies!

could he poss. email me the spreadsheet or pm me if you prefer? sorry, just interested in times as want to know if we are getting faster
tongue.gif

oops, just spoken to mother, little sister retired in sj and pony took off after 1st jump xc so no good, father in foul mood!
And apparently my instructor didn't have such a good ride xc on my boy, he may have called him dangerous
blush.gif
..oops...was clear though, but 2 down sj.

lol!!

poor sister!
tongue.gif
lol dont blame your dad after todays weather though!

poor instructor! ah well, but your horse is a xc machine though (as said in NL ) so he probs isnt used to what you are used to!
laugh.gif
least you know your horse is fit though!

not sure about the bracing though!
