Firstly, does anyone on here know if Lillico's in Aylesford sell straw? If not I'll have to give them a ring.

Second question is longer..
Before I started to drive I lived in a caravan on site at work and keep Ethel down the road from work, so would stay in the caravan through the week and come home on my weekends off and my friend would do her when I was home. Now I drive I am moving home (can't stand living in the caravan anymore) and work/where Ethel lives is about half an hour away. I'm trying to work out if it would be best to move her to a yard closer to home, yard in question is 10mins, if that, away from home. If I keep her where she is it means I can muck her out etc in my lunchtimes and sort her out after work easily, but on my weekends off/holiday I'd have to drive the half hour (down some horrid country lanes) to get to her and would have to do her all in one go as can't stay down the yard all day but then can't afford go backwards and forwards. I don't really like asking people to do her now I can drive and get myself there, so not too keen on still asking my friend to do her when I'm off. If I move her to the yard closer to home, I can easily do her on my days off but my work hours would make it difficult to do her, especially in winter. I start at 7 in winter and will be finished at around half 5. In summer we start at 6 and finish about 6 (longer lunch break). It would be impossible to see her on days in working, except before work very early or after work quite late.

Sorry if none of that makes sense, I'm trying to list the pro's and con's of each yard but I don't think it's come across very well :o What would you do?

Lillico's sell hay, so I would guess they sell straw too. Prob worth the phone call, if no one else replies.

If you kept her where she is, would you be able to stay in the caravan at weekends?

Can't see how moving her to the yard closer to home would work - not with your working hours. Unless someone else did her for you on your work days and you take care of weekends and holidays.

May just have to ask your friends to do 1 day at the weekend - if you explain about the petrol?

Tough question - probably why no other answers.

Hi Holly, thanks, will give them a call tomorrow :) What you have said is what I have been thinking, I want to move her closer to home but I don't think it would work out. She's happy where she is so there's no other real issue other than I'd prefer to have her closer to home. Perhaps I'll wait until I have found another job closer to home (am looking but not getting very far!) and then move her, and continue asking my friend to do her on my days off, friend says she doesn't mind doing her (she actually seems to like it) but I feel bad

Sorry can't help about lillicos :(.
Regards to the yard- personally I think u will be better off staying where u are and tying Ethel in around work! Otherwise if u finish at 6ish then drive home to the yard won't get her in until nearly 7? Unless the yard do assisted? But then paying someone to bring her in every night might equal cost of petrol back at weekend
How about the mornings would the yard let u on before u go to work will be very early poss time restrictions? May mean u end up paying someone to turn out too? Hope this helps but vie prob confused u more?

Thanks Chesnut Mare, I do think for now it would be best to keep her where she is, as the yard I'd move to is DIY, not sure about what time you're allowed on the yard. Thinking a bit more about it I don't think it would work out as I'd have to turn her out either on her own or with someone elses horse too and I don't know if any of the other people there would be happy with that.

Think I'll stay put for now :)
