I have 2 saddle on a THAT auction site at far less than they're worth, but not a sniff. The are set to end and Sunday evening PRIME TIME and hardly any questions, watchers and no bids.

1 DR which would make someone a great starter for £99
1 Ideal which is worth far more than the £199 start price

Should I drop the start prices? Or should I sit it out and hope for last minute bidders? I dont know what to do as they both need to go so I can pay for my new one - any suggestions?

Thanks

I just sold mine, i didn't get any bids until the last minute. I sold a good condition ideal saddle for £180 and started it at £150 :(
Its christmas soon and nobody has any money to buy as they're spending it on presents.

It's probably just a bad time of year to be selling saddles :(

I've recently sold 4 saddles at reasonable prices, had lots of watchers and decent amount of bidders. Can you hang on until next month?

Tbh guys, I think buying saddles on ebay is risky - unless you know what you are doing it is difficult to buy a saddle online hence why lots of people are recommended proper fittings. I have only sold 2 on THAT site and bought 1 in last five years.

Have you thought of selling them through saddlers? I did that with another two and yes, they did take 20% but at least they were properly fitted to a horse somewhere.

I tried selling mine on "that" auction site, local free ads, local paper etc with no success. It's now at the saddlery who also sell second hand (with master saddle fitter). but they have warned me that it might take 6 months to sell, especially over December/January while nothing much is happening, so just hoping that once spring is on the way and people are getting new horses and thinking about the season ahead it might sell. there just doesn't seem to be a market for second hand saddles, even reputable well respected makes in good condition.

I'm in the same boat. I've relisted mine that didn't sell last week. It's an unused, brand new K2 Ultima Jump, that was made for my now retired TB, and it's starting price is on for £400 less than I paid for it. If it's not going to shift, I'll reluctantly give it to my saddler, but it pains me that she'll sell it for the price of a new one, yet only give me 60% of it's worth (so I'd lose £560). I thought it was hard finding saddles to fit big, rangey TBs, and I'd have thought mine would have been easy to sell, but obviously not.

I think with the auction site people tend to bid last minute just put a reserve on that you would be happy with and see if it goes. I know a lot of people seem happy to buy saddles off of the internet second hand but personally I wouldn't do it. A medium in one brand isn't necessaraily going to be the same size in another brand so there's not really any way of knowing whether the saddle will fit or not.

Also the same with the seat my horse is short coupled and can take some 17" saddles but the majority 17" are too long for him. So for me personally I use a master saddler every time. It may also be a sign of the times people might be happy to take the risk whether it'll fit or not where as now people have less money and can't afford to take the risk. I would either wait until Spring or just keep advertising i'm sure they will sell soon.

I have two saddles on adtrader/preloved one very cheap pony saddle, one good quality, known make GP saddle but not one call. I was going to put them onto that auction site but might leave it until after Christmas if things are slow there as well.
