Opinions please. I am looking for sharers - have found one fab girl and looking for another. Has anyone had any experience of having more than one sharer?

I don't riding being pregnant and the horse is not sellable and have had a bad loan experience. Am I being over optermistic to thing 2 can share sensibly?

ask bh_pride, she had 2 sharers and her for a while, I think it worked well. just need to find the 'right' people for your horse x

I think it depends on the horse, what the sharers want to do etc. Both sharers are going to most likely want the same amount of riding- how much work can the horse take? What happens if the horse needs a day or 2 off each week, who will look after it then?

I think communication is key, between the sharers and owner and the sharers themselves. I wouldn't personally take on a horse if there was another sharer, as it would probably in some way effect what I could do with the horse.

Hello

Yes it worked out ok with two sharers when Tia was my pet, I had to get rid of one when I started riding again though. I had written agreements with both as will detailing dos and donts etc. Edited to add, both just wanted to hack/jump so easy all round, now that I school, schooling by the sharer is banned as that's my (only) area that I'm interested in + schooling must be consistent at this stage.

At my old yard we had three/four horses who had 2/3 sharers! It seemed to work really well. One of the horses had her owner and two others and the others just had two sharers. As long as you lay down which days which person has, who pays for what, what they can and cant do I think you should be ok. x

I shared a horse with another , slightly older , girl for a while .
It worked out okay , as the owner was initially looking for a full loan but we could both only do a part loan .

This meant the horse was still kept on yard with owners other horses and she done it in the morning then one of us would come and do all stable duties and exersize in the afternoon .

You would need to arrange what each sharer could do exersize - wise , what days they needed to come to the yard and be very careful the communication does not break down between the you and the sharers . What we done was brought a calender ( kept at the yard ) where each sharer marked there days and what they had done ect and the owner wrote down any changes of feed , rugs ect . Also you would need to be very careful one sharer does not take advantage of the other ( I was always the one that cleaned the tack , fully mucked out , cleaned rugs ect while the other sharer just basically rode :[)

hope it works out for you

If you're not riding it's really only 2 sharers so I don't see why not. I have a sharer and as long as you're totally clear about who does which days (with a bit of flexibility when necessary) and and who pays what it shouldn't be a problem. A board in the tackroom for messages / rotas etc helps to make sure everyone knows where they stand.

I was offered the opp to take on a horse which would have meant 2 sharers and owner all looking after/riding horse. each sharer had two days and the owner had 3 including a weekend day. The sharer who didnt have a weekend day was given first refusal if owner was not able to do horse or wasnt planning to actually ride. All were allowed to have lessons/hack out and all she asked was that it was written on white board outside horses stable. As she had 3 days she always gave him a day off so to cut a long story short everyone had two days! both sharers pay same contribution.
i guess the biggest bonus is having more people so flexibility is earier!
tbh so much depends on the horse. The one i know loan/share is a one person horse for riding but many are happy to have different riders.

I have 2 sharers for one of my horses! And the arrangement works perfectly. I no longer ride the horse due to other commitments with younger horses. Both sharers ride twice a week including one weekend day each - and everyone is very happy.
