Does anyone ride a horse that has more than one sharer (I mean you are a sharer but there is also another rider/sharer).

How are things kept fair for going to sponsored rides/clinics/shows etc?

The horse I share was advertised for hacking (with the owner on her other horse) clinics, XC, jumping, shows etc.

I seem to be seeing the other rider taking the horse to a lot of activities but I’m not invited to do some on him also? How does this generally work?

I’m also hacking a lot on my own (which I don’t mind) but the horse was advertised as a hacking/riding buddy.

I’m new to being a sharer since I lost my own horse a few years ago and just getting back into it so does feel a bit strange.

Thank you.

Perhaps the other sharer is finding these events and asking to take the horse rather than being invited.
They may think your happy just hacking alone.

It’s actually the horse’s owner tagging the other sharer in a post ‘do you fancy this’ type thing. With the other sharer saying ‘looks great, let’s go’ type of situation.

Have they become pretty good friends? That would be my assumption. What was he advertised for when you started sharing him?

He was advertised as a hacking buddy to accompany her and her young horse on rides and with the opportunity to accompany the owner to clinics, shows, sponsored rides.

We both applied and could do him different days so worked out! She’s known the other lady for years so maybe you are right.

But, the owner does know I’m keen to do more and I’ve even been having lessons on him.

Every share is different. I have been in a share with another loaner but I prefer to just share with the owner as in my experience it can get complicated. It is also frustrating when you want to be able to do more with the horse and feel your missing out. Maybe have a chat with owner or suggest something you would like to take the horse too and if you can’t reach an agreement see if you can find another share.

I’m always conscious when I share a horse that it isn’t my own horse and I know that I have to respect the owners way of doing things may be different to my own but also good sharers make it possible for the owners to be able to continue enjoying the horse so a bit of consideration both ways is needed. I’m still friends with the owner of a horse I loaned 15 years ago yet had a recentish experience where the owner would take the horse to shows etc and tell everybody on the yard how he’d done but not even let me know they had entered. I wouldn’t stalk the owner if she wanted to take him herself but I would of thought it was polite to share any good news when I helped school and care for the horse. Good luck with getting out and about more ?

I really like the horse, he’s perfect for me. It’s only been a few months so still finding our feet and getting used to being a sharer and not an owner.

His owner loves me and the way I ride him, she loves the way it’s worked out with the two of us and can concentrate on her young horse which she wanted.

I’m still friends with sharers over the years of owning my own horse, they were all wonderful.

Perhaps speak to her in a friendly way about arranging to hack together or tag the owner in a few "how about this" type of way

Often people don't realise how their actions appear - she may well not realise you are feeling left out.

You are probably right and I’m reading too much into it all.
