My 2YR isn’t even 24 hours into his boxrest and he’s already getting bored. Any cheap things I can do to keep him entertained? I’m off work for Christmas from tomorrow so I can be about and spend time with him a lot more too which should hopefully help!

The best thing you can do for horses on box rest is allow them to relax and chill out (sometimes easier said than done, but should be the aim).

Hay and leave them alone to zone out as much as possible. Toys/licks/excessive handling is just counter productive
Absolutely this. Usually takes a few days for acceptance to step in, even with a youngster.

Any stimulation sets you right back again and they can start all sorts of boredom relieving activities from banging etc to crave more stimulation.

Good idea. I’ll keep to my usual routine and not faff!

it’s horrible isn’t it!
I found routine king in keeping her calm. I also used to move her to another box while mucking out which I think helped and I kept other horses around so she could interact.
We have huge amounts of bamboo in the garden, I used to cut a huge swathes and tie bunches in her stable so she had some grazing! Hard work but it needed pruning anyway!

Oh that’s so clever! Didn’t know horses could eat that!
He’s a very chilled out sort anyway, and is in a section of a barn rather than a stable so he can move about a bit which is good. I’m sure he’s fine, I just think god - I would hate to be stuck in a room for two weeks! ?
