Would it be too much to do XC training 2 days in a row?

I have a XC lesson booked with my RI for 4th April but there is XC training with Les Smith the day before including a wee competition over the course.

Only jumping about 2’ so nothing big – would it be too much to ask pony to do both? He’s reasonably fit and has been back in work since early January and is worked 4 – 5 days a week at the moment.

Thoughts please? I always find in group training there are lots of breaks so might just be manegable?

Can you do the group training see how intense it was and then cancel lesson with instructor if you think it's too much. Let instructor know in advance that this might happen.

I'd do it no question! Our RC runs camps each year with 2 lessons a day, one flat then xc and one sj then xc. Horses cope fine and many are just happy hackers the rest of the time. If something like that came up I would happily book onto both.

Thanks - I've text my instructor to see what she thinks. She's pretty hard to get time with so I'd be reluctant to cancel with her at last minute.

The sunday lesson will be at 9:30 am, the Monday lesson at 3 or 4 pm so more than a day for him to recover.

SpottedCat - I was supposed to be going to pony camp at the end of April which would have been 2 SJ, 2 XC and 1 dressage lesson over 3 day so this should be much easier than that!

Think I'll just book it.

That is plenty of time to recover, that's a day and a half.

I went to the Pony Club Instructors Conference last week and Yogi Breisner was saying how we don't do enough jumping in this country. That if he gets something in to jump school, it might jump twice a day, everyday for two weeks if it needs it!
So I would say that 2 days XC over 2ft should be a doddle for him!

He'll be fine as long as they do not involve huge journey's (+2hrs), both your RI and Les are so good they will know not to push him if he's struggling a bit.
Just give him the day off after wards
Go for it and have fun.

First one is about an hour a way, second one just 10 minutes up the road from me so no long distances to be travelled!

RI thinks it might be a bit much so she's going to see if she can reschedule but if not I'm going to attempt it anyway - he'll get a massage and a day off afterwards :)

babybear - are your going to strathearn with O? if so i think im coming to?

No getting a 1-2-1 lesson from her at EquiX near Greengairs - much, much closer to me & can't justify the travel cost to Strathern at the moment.

What date you heading to Strathearn?

Aw cool, yeah was thinking of heading up their for a play, just love how they have so many fences and combinations. Had a couple of lessons with O, she is great. Heading up on the 5th I think it is, I have to text her to let her know for definate. Shame I couldnt pick you up.

Never been to equiX let me know how it goes. If you ever fancy pairing up to go somewhere let me know!

Might try and get to Strathearn later in the year but EquiX or ECC is fine for us just now as we're still learning the basics :)

Will let you know how EquiX is - I know they've built a load of new jumps including water and ditches!

Definitely up for pairing up for lessons etc sometime :D

cool :)

i was thinking of going to clear rounds at rowallan at some point so will let you know what we get up to!

have fun :)
