2 year old and a b****y splint

Just rang my vet. Little lady has a lump on her leg the last few days so I rang the vet about it today. It is just underneath her knee on the outside of her leg. Discussed it and he reckons it's a splint. I am so dissappointed. He said he will look at it the next time he comes.

That's her out of doing any showing in later years

Is there anything I can do with it. Bearing in mind she is two

there are products available to reduce or get rid of splints. Get the splint confirmed from your vet and ask his advise. Fairly recently I saw some new products advertised in a mag. Years ago we used bone radial applied with a toothbrush !. Not sure if you can still get it now etc. It got rid of a splint on my show pony and he went on to win many championships etc. so there is hope.

Dont be worrying about a splint. One of my showhorses through a splint on near fore and then 4 weeks later through on the other leg. It was last year as a 4yo, he was only in light work and his feet were beautifully balanced. We was never lame and we still showed him under saddle and he won, never once did a judge comment. He is a 5yo now and the splints have re-modelled and smoothed down and are barely noticeable anymore. He shows at county level and is always in the ribbons. His half sister won at HOYS in 2005 and she has a splint too. Dont worry too much.
 
This might sound mad but it might be better that she got it earlier rather than later, our filly through one when she was just turning two and it was MASSIVE but she still had plenty of growing to do and as she got more bone the splint kind of got absorbed.. its still there but not nearly as bad.. chin up, its not the end of the world.
 
My yearling had a massive splint, u could cup it in your hand. As he grew it seemed to shrink, i did loads of top class showing with him
 
Splints definitely shrink as they grow - we have had the odd one or 2 over the years and they have never been lame on them - all it is is where the bone has strengthened itself after being under stress or a knock. Putting a paste or any other snake oil on the skin of an animal and expecting it to dissolve bone is never going to happen!!!!- just the natural shrinkage of it over time!!! They are only ever a problem if they form under a tendon or ligament so personally I wouldn't worry at all!!

I put a post on here on Saturday night about my horse being diagnosed with a splint. ICE ICE ICE ICE AND ICE! Buy some polystyrene cups, fill with water, freeze and apply to splint making sure you move the cup continually to prevent freeze burns. As the ice melts you peel the cup away from the ice. It is very simple, very effective and is better than cold hosing. Make sure the horse has stable bandages on over gamgee when he is in the stable for support but given his age make sure you put tape over the end in case it should come loose.
