Hey, can anyone advise me..

my two year old has fractured his distal phalanx and although it is in the last stages of healing he is EXTREMELY agitated, nervous and excitable in his stable (as he's on box rest) - and as a result, it's not healing completely. He's even gone as far to smash his head through a window, cut his legs doing god knows what, and he even broncs in the stable! Even walking him out for the vet is a nightmare and he bronks, rears etc etc and pretty much believes he is a stallion  bless him!

He is a Morgan X warmblood but also has a lot of TB further back in his lines so he is generally v. highly strung.

So I was wondering what the best calmer would be for him...

Thanks :)

Have you spoken to your vet about this? Might they be able to advise?

One thing that I have used to help take the edge of my youngster when on box rest, was Valerian. I bought it from a seller on Ebay and made a tincture, which was added to his feed every day. He was very laid back and after a few days, I weaned him off it. By then, he was used to the cold hosing and was not playing up anymore.

This was the seller - they might be able to offer some advice as well.

I hope this helps.

ETA - I did also take all sugar out of his diet and put him on a clamer chaff with additional supplements of Brewers Yeast and Magnesium Oxide.

Thanks for your advice! :D

I haven't spoken to my vet..it's a very long story but i live in Italy and don't speak Italian so i rely on my dad (who knows nothing about horses) to translate and I don't actually trust the translation etc. Yes it sounds horrendously crazy and it drives me insane at times.

He isnt on any hard feed at the moment, literally on some v. low quality hay just to keep the weight on.
