2 year old done a SDFT, chances of full recovery?

Hello!
my pony did her tendon, she’s 2 years old. She’s extremely lame and swollen in that leg. Obviously seen a vet etc and have a recovery plan. But has anyone had any full recovery stories? What’s the chances of full recovery? ☹️
 
How big is the hole?

The horse will recover and have a useful life. Depending on how much damage there is as to what type of career the horse will have in the future. Plenty of racehorses do tendons, have a year off and carry on racing to the best of their ability.

My own lad did a 100%rupture of his SDFT and whilst he would not race again he came home to me and has done exceptionally well in the show ring. No he wouldn't have gone hunting or for gallops along the beach or jumped big heights again but I wouldn't have wanted to do that anyway. To me he was always going to be a show horse.

At 2yo they heal very well too. So time is going to be your biggest asset and given the horse isn't in work that's not issue and won't be as you presumably wouldn't have been backing them until at least this time next year at the very earliest anyway.

She’s done a good job ?
She was bought to hunt which is a bit of a heartbreak. Yes she’s just happily growing at the minute and will be for another 2 years yet. Obviously she’s finding box rest frustrating but I can’t help that.
 
What would make me cautious is how she has done it- most likely just very bad luck, but could point to an inherent weakness.
But young horses have a good capacity to heal so if it was just a very unlucky mad moment in the field then you should get a decent outcome
 
In time she should be OK to hunt if she heals well and obviously won't be hunting any time in the next 2-3 years so it should make no difference to her for the future so long as you are careful.

She is in a very big field so I recon I’ve just been super unlucky sadly. She’s always been a strong pony, even while lame she’s determined it doesn’t hurt and she really thinks she shouldn’t be on box rest lol
 
Sorry to hear about your youngster Lizzeexox! :(

My horse did his SDFT in the field as a 6yr old, nice hole, Strict box rest and a lot of field rest the final scan (around 6 months after original injury) it had gone back to 100% normal and 2 years on, not had a issue since - he does all types of work.
