Mayhem by (passport) name, Mayhem by nature it seems!

2 years ago I made a completely hare-brained decision and bought a scrappy, gangly 4yo just before my final year of university. I'd never had my own horse before (short of a pony on loan) let alone a big youngster with a few issues related to remembered pain and the attitude of a big Labrador puppy i.e. FRIENDS, FOOD, MORE FOOD, LET ME EAT IT!!!!!! and zero personal space. On paper it was a terrible idea, and in person only a marginally less terrible idea. But here we are, alive and well (in his current case, slightly too well 🐷). I'm having to remind myself that in the grand scheme of things 2 years is not a long time! But there have been some real highs, and lots of lows culminating in a trip to A&E earlier this year. I'm still trying to find my mojo again, but it's getting better all the time and I think we're starting to trust each other again. We haven't cracked the hacking thing yet, but it'll come!

The biggest thing that came out of my stalking myself on FB for these pictures is to stop being so bloody negative... every other post is "we did a thing, it wasn't perfect but we survived yay!" when actually it's been brilliant. No more self-deprecating humour!

As a just backed baby before I got him

We've had yard moves a-plenty

Fancy Dress galore - he was a last minute entry titled 'sick-note' after being off for almost 3 months with a field injury.

Attempts at stressage - both posh, and pirate themed.

Plenty of mud...

And lots of growing!

To many, many more years of Mayhem.

Well done. He looks lovely. I know what you mean about the humorous negativity. I’m trying to catch myself as really there are lots of positives!

There is nothing like making your own horse, and basic training should take two years.
For them everything is new , and you get to teach them.
You have done a good job, when other people want buy ready mades. Well done.

Thank you, he really is such a sweetheart despite his teenage moments.

It's so easy to do and I think actually can be quite harmful? I might be overthinking it (HA example number one) but I often use it as a way of just not accepting praise at work or in my personal life! His old owner commented on one of the pictures on FB saying how lovely he looks and I had to stop myself from saying something along the lines of "shame about the jockey" and just say a simple thank you!

Yes, if we believe or listen too much to that negative inner voice then I thinks it’s harmful. Celebrate your successes and accept your praise !

I can be guilty of this too, and it's quite hard to stop and take the compliments sometimes, much easy to say the horse is fabulous!

You both look fab, here's to many more years!

He looks like a good lad and up for doing all sorts with you. Not sure he will quite replace the andrex puppy, maybe a bit big :);):)

He'd give it a good go though! Might send it in and see what they say about a new brand rep ;)

Thanks ycbm :)

Now I understand your avatar!!

Haha, I did wonder about changing it but I think it sums both of us up quite well - a bit bonkers 🙄😂

You know, for ages I've interpreted your profile picture as a saddlebred-type horse in parade costume ribbons...

I'll pass that onto him, i'm sure he'd much rather it was that than the sad truth! Being wrapped in toilet paper can't have felt very dignified...
