In 1818 Jacques Laffitte bought, for the sum of , the property of Maisons-sur-Seine. He split the land into plots and had roads laid out, and this became the half of the town now known as "The Park" ("le Parc"). The town was officially renamed Maisons-Lafftitte in his honour in 1882.

To mark the bicentenary of this, the town council and the Tourism Office are organising a number of events throughout the year, many of them in coordination with the racecourse.

If you're interested in historical military equestrianism, there is a Napoleonic camp for the weekend of Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 May with a troop of Hussars.
