Don't panic :biggrin3:

Out riding today I was thinking of all the dogs we have owned, either as a family or myself and hubby. I counted 21 and can only recall 4 of those actually a result of looking / wanting a dog at that particular moment.

Most of them ranged from unwanted for whatever reason to Happy who was thrown out of a travelling car. Gina who was used as an ashtray / football. Beauty who was the runt of a litter and was going to be drowned (going back 30 yrs for her) even a couple (not the same owners) who came to stay whilst owners went on holiday and never bothered to pick them up - these are / were friends, we don't run a boarding kennels :wink3:

This is 40 yrs worth of dogs, not to mention several cats of which I can only remember 4's names, rabbits, guinea pigs and probably several other species.

LOL well counted :) I've only had 11 dogs which were truly mine over the past 35 odd years, but my mum has had literally dozens and there is no way I could remember all of them :D :D

ETA - oh and one kestrel, two rabbits, 3 bantams, innumerable guinea pigs (couldn't tell the males from the females when I was a kid!) and 5 horses :)

All of my animals have been deliberately acquired, in that we were looking for x animal at the time, but every last one has been somebody else's reject or rescue. No blank canvas puppies here (yet) with the exception of my mum's newest addition but as he's not technically mine he doesn't affect the tally. ;)

Big horse is blind in one eye and failed the riding school vetting, little horse was from WHW, D was £100 from the freeads, R was from SHWA, the two cats I foisted on mum were stray kittens from work. The guinea pigs were left in a box on the surgery doorstep!

There's something 'wrong' with every last one of them but I wouldn't change the experience for the world.

PHEW!!! Lovely thread! The *second hand* sort & the most damaged are often the most rewarding & the ones that give you the most back x

I guess we're all suckers for a sob story :smile3:

Wouldn't of been without any of them for a single second !

And not forgetting when I went to buy a numnah and came back with a horse.....

I have only twice gone out to buy a puppy, all the rest, about ten so far, have been acquired as unwanted at various stages in their lives. This ranged from a ten week old JRT to two terrier crosses of ten and twelve which lived to thirteen and seventeen and were on the go until the last!
