Is 21 too old to breed?
She was a broodmare and then became my field companion for my pony.

When I got her she was very weak lame and general overall ill looking. Now she looks about 10 and flies around the field bucking and plunging and messingIts not "too old" many mares can breed at that age. The query would be if its ethical.
She needs a rectal to see if she has retained fluid. That is the biggest problem in breeding from an older mare. When I got her she was very weak lame and general overall ill looking. Now she looks about 10 and flies around the field bucking and plunging and messing
Yeah I decided to leave my mare... She's done enough in her life. She's been used a breeding machine for years. So I just said ok its not exactly fair to you my dear. I'll leave it and not be so selfishI asked this question the other month, after having a vet come out for annual vaccs. He told me he'd just been to scan a mare that was 26 in foal! She'd had 4 foals beforehand and was looking incredibly well. But I can't lie my jaw nearly dropped when he mentioned the mares age. But he said its all dependent on the mare. Never say never I reckon, but definitely get all the checks done
