23yo Advertised as Broodmare!! Eeek!

Not sure why, but her back looks photoshopped to me. If you zoom in on the photo there is far more pixelation to her back than the rest of the photo. Weird!

Also think it's some sort of wind up. Look at the other horse she has for sale - 13 yr old gelding and the description. I'm sure photo is of the same horse!

I have been perusing adverts recently and have been absolutely amazed at the number of unsuitable horses that are for sale, some have health issues that make them only fit for light hacking for a short time and some are just too old IMO to be moved from a settled situation. Some of the sellers are saying that they have owned the horse/pony for a long time.
I cannot understand how they can do it. If I were genuinely unable to keep an elderly/infirm horse I'd have it PTS, rather than trying to shift the responsibility onto someone else.

Hmm In the first ad she says she is parting with the oldie because she wants a horse to ride. In the second she is selling because she is working full time and doesn't have the time to ride as much as the horse needs. Poor boy has arthritis in both hocks and has no shoes on back because he finds it hard to lift his feet for the farrier!!!

Definitely not the same horses unless the seller is incredible skilled on photoshop. The mare has mild vitiligo on her muzzle, the gelding doesn't.

I think the advert tells you all you need to know. The seller is an ignorant cruel person. They are obviously hopping either some sucker will take pity on the mare, or someone will buy her and make a quick few quid by sending her to the meat man so seller doesn't have to feel guilty.

Unfortunately it is possible for horses to have sway backs this bad and the photo doesn't look altered to me, sadly. :(

If she was mine I would PTS as it really isn't nice for them to have a spine so contorted.

Another badly sway backed horse (a bit worse than the grey).

God, I actually gasped out loud at the last picture! I've never seen a sway back like that - could an animal be comfortable in the field like this? Genuine question, I am not being snarky.

quite ironic given how much the seller raves about how much she 'bonds' with her owner and is a one person horse then goes on to say she's getting rid of her at the age of 23

pretty disgusted tbh.

put the poor mare to sleep if you dont want her, sounds like she's been a good worker being used to breed a shed load of foals in her life time financially benefiting her owner no end , yet here she is she's still trying to squeeze every last £ out of the poor animal selling her on to god knows where when she should be enjoying a well earned retirement in her 20's.
i hope to god she's lucky and gets one in a good loving home but how likely is that?
people make me sick sometimes.

also, im a freelance photographer for a living and that photo hasnt been photoshopped

Agree cruel wicked witch who cannot even get her story straight, people like this make me sick, she probably does not want to spend the money to have them pts - poor mare owes her nothing and she repays her like this

Well, back ache is not nice and I would guess that she has more than just an ache. :( Apparently when their spines 'let go' like that it causes the internal organs to move and change position, again, not really a good thing.

ETA. Why the flip does she (the owner) think that it is OK for a horse with a spine like that to carry the weight of a foal?!!!!!

I feel so sorry for that poor mare.

I think she deserves to be PTS with dignity.

Without being funny, who is going to buy her in this market for £300? It seems she's destined for the meat man, which is sad.

How can you be a horse-lover and do that? It makes me really mad.

I fully admit I would hate to lose my boy and I will keep him to the end of his days, because I couldn't bare it if he was in this mare's position.

A horse is for life, not just for when they are useful, when will people get this into their heads?

sadly probably not a wind up seeing as you have to pay to advertise on HM:( I've seen a horse with a sway back like that local to me, did a double take when i first drove past as i couldn't believe how dipped it was!

Horrific :(

It upsets me so much when old horses aren't treated with the love and dignity they deserve.

I hope she gets a few well worded emails that make her rethink.

The passport number quoted relates to:

Strana IV

Colour Grey

Dam Name Not Supplied By PIO

So sadly the advert does appear to be genuine except mare is 25
No progeny listed

I find it very sad that someone would even attempt to sell her, poor horse.
Owner should PTS, but probably wants to squeeze last few quid out of her, and certainly won't want PTS or disposal costs - just plain selfish :(

Agree! Just vile, selfish and repulsive behaviour.

After saying goodbye to my beloved veteran last week this really touches a nerve with me :( :(

I agree is sad to sell her at that age poor mare.
( If interested) I would get a vet to check her. If he/she said she wasn't in pain or discomfort I would not PTS.

But then once a horse is in my family the only way they leave me is when lord and maker say's its their time or accident or injury .

I would send her to retirement livery Prob not breed from her I would be worried her back would sink lower with the weight of the foal ( unless vet rec otherwise ) I do hate it when people sell a horse of this age. ( Unless valid reason ). But then again like my own 24 year old mare I have made her and the others future secure. She certainly does not look like this , I wonder wether she has had heavy riders on to look like that and over worked.

So sad when they are dis guarded like this :(
