Made it over to visit Chico after work this evening and what a state he was in. Poor soul covered in dry sweat and blood with a great big bandage around him.

He was very pleased to see me though and i got several whinnies and lots of head rubbing on me!

I asked for a brush and groomed his neck and head for a while before it was time to go. Chico protested at me leaving him with some door kicking, oops! :o

Here he is, poor little man.

poor little soilder hope he pulls through i know its a horrible time i so know how hard it is when o are away from there animals and exactly the same with mine!! did vets give you another update tonight xx keep us posted
 
Gosh he is perky isnt he. Fingers and toes crossed he stays that way, but he certainly looks lively!! Maybe he's just unhappy about the untrendy black tie cummerbund that some idiot is insisting that he wears round his tummy......:-)))

Long may he kick doors, that's the spirit!
 
That's the spirit Chico :) Fingers crossed you'll have him home soon and you can give him a lovely groom and get him all cleaned up, for now all that matters is that he's still fighting - he certainly doesn't look like a horse that's giving up easily.
 
Bless so happy for you and Chico is alot happyer seeing his mum. Takes me back to when my girl was in same boat as Chico in nov last year. Just waiting for gut sounds and a poo was all i wanted to start with. Then after 4 days i got to take her home. It does get better , but i still worry even after 5months post op. All best to you both xx
 
Pleased you got to see Chico today. He looks like he is doing o.k, will keep my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. On the 2nd day after surgery I was allowed to take my horse out for 10 minutes grazing and gave me chance to give him a good groom too as they wouldn't let me do it inside the stable. Made him feel a lot better getting rid of the dried sweat etc.

Hope you get some rest tonight. The emotional and mental strain of having your horse go through major colic surgery is exhausting.
 
Wow shocked I often read your posts and missed this totally I hope your horse makes a complete recovery and am sending healing vibes.

If he is showing signs of missing you that is a good thing,bless his cotton socks I will be thinking of you both tonight.
 
Shocking posts. Very sorry to read you news. Sending loads of good vibes for a speedy comfortable recovery for him and as least stress for you now. He is such a beautiful boy x
 
I missed your original post, so sorry for what you and poor Chico are going through, wishing him a speedy recovery and lots of vibes his way, and hugs for you, can't imagine how awful you are feeling - take care of yourself x
 
Chico has continued to improve today and is eating soaked hard feed and haylage. Vet is really pleased with him, says he is doing remarkably well considering.

I am absolutely drained today so decided not to visit him tonight, going to pop up in the morning. Picked up my grooming kit from the yard after work today so i can give him a good pamper tomorrow. Vet apologised for him being so messy but said she wouldnt let the yard girls hose him down like they normally do so as not to annoy him so soon after surgery.

What did make me smile though was they removed his shoes so he wouldnt damage the recovery box and i only paid for them last week, how typical is that, lol! :D:rolleyes:
 
Happy he doing better bless you it is hard work. My girl also had her shoes took off only had them on a week. I was given them back when she left. Had them refitted 4 weeks later. Did try not having shoes on as was pointless been as she was on box rest for two months. Got to 4 weeks and had to have them back on, for her to have her 15 min in hand walk for grass to kick me. Lucky my hand got in way of belly and she busted my knuckle. Not blaming her as she did have abot of colic and vet gave her pain killer other horses running about she wanted to play. Would not mind by time it took vet 30mins to get there she was fine, but was not taken any chances. Sooner you get to take him home the better as he will soon pick up more when he home. xx
 
Fabulous news for Chico, I to have been wondering how he is all day.

It is standard practice to remove shoes, the surgeons did on my boy. Everything crossed he keeps improving.
