Hi All,

Feeling glum that a 2nd national lockdown is looming very soon. From a very (very) selfish point of view im gutted as my horse and i are just over 6 months together and really going well. we are racking up our DCs at discovery and im goal was to be ready to step up to newcomers by new year. I have also placed a deposit on a new lorry that will be ready w/c 16th nov. However, if a national lockdown comes it will halt all my plans (SOB!).

Anyway.. do we know if in France and Germany, with their new restrictions, if we think arena hire will be allowed? just hoping that even though shows will most likely come to a stop, i could carry on training.

Thank you for listening to my first world moan and moping.

So are you in the UK or France?
Under the new rules in France you wouldn't be allowed to do that as you can only go out for essential purposes. Feeding your horses, yes. Taking them to use an arena, no.

Yeah, it is selfish, but I get it, sort of.

The rules aren't super clear here in Germany about arena hire but I think its a given that it shouldn't happen and we should only be doing the necessities. I also think it a bit rude. For example, during this time, we are allowed to use the arena at the yard, but only x amount of people at a time. I'd hate to wait for a haul in to get finished so I, an actual livery of the place, can exercise my horse. We should also only have liveries on the property, as we should minimize the amount of people at the yard in general. You know how mad I would be if we all had to quarantine and not be able to go to the yard because a haul in, someone that didn't need to be there, brought in COVID? I'd be a bit mad. I don't think skirting your country's lockdown rules by crossing a border into another country to do an activity is right.

Still crappy if a livery brings in COVID, but I'm more "ok" with that.

It sucks. Many of us have had to put things on hold, delay timelines, push out goals, but we're in a pandemic, so we can't be so selfish and hope that some sacrifices now can allow us enjoyment later.

I am in the same boat as you re. jumping clears at Disco and looking to step up. It is hard but provided you are able to still ride there are so many things you can do to get your horse going well for when you do step up. Mine has never been in such good condition as the huge break from shows has forced me to work on our flatwork. I've even (to the disgust of everyone at my yard!) thought of entering a dressage test!

I will be gutted if shows are cancelled again but of course people have it so much worse and I always think that if that's my biggest worry then I am so lucky.

A few months of no shows has actually made me take a step back from competing and made me fall in love with all the different parts of horse ownership again. I had started riding purely to compete, but since having such a long break I tried so many new things with my horse and she has responded brilliantly. The result is a more confident, fresher and and far stronger horse, and that meant we were able to step up quickly when shows started again.

If you're feeling really low, maybe make a list of everything you've achieved this year already with your horse, and work out how you can make the most of a winter of cancelled shows?

The UK cant really have another "national" lockdown as they cant lockdown Scotland or Wales anymore since we seem to be doing our own thing now. England could of course lockdown though.

I dont think we will up here in Scotland as businesses are so screwed as it is.

Im 34 weeks pregnant so shows are the last thing on my mind right now (although I'll be bumbed if they're cancelled come Feb/March time when I plan to be back out). I'm more worried about giving birth in the hospital with all this rubbish going on, not knowing if my partner can stay with me etc.

We are back into our second Lockdown in Ireland and If I am totally honest, its a mess. Nobody giving a hoot about the restrictions and taking the absolute WeeWee. Its depressing to see. I have lost my job as a result of the first lockdown, and now a lot of my friends have lost or are losing theirs. I honestly don't know how this is going to end...

I've not gotten out to a show in a long time. My county was put into lockdown for a month back in september too. and now a national one. Its not sustainable.

Wales in the middle of a National lock down. Always interesting when people living in other parts of the UK have more idea what is going on in Europe than in our corner of the country.
We are supposed to be only travelling for essential reasons. So we can travel to care for our animals, but all competitions, arena hire, etc have stopped for the two week firebreak.

yes, a more accurate title would have been "2nd lockdown for whole of england looming" . i think reading media reports they all spout about "national lockdown" so just rolled of the tongue/key pad.

As gryff says, we're locked down in Wales already. Reading between the lines, I think they've sacrificed Halloween and Bonfire Night so we can open up a bit more for Christmas - and are ready to lockdown again afterwards if it causes a spike. I fear England are heading for a very difficult Christmas unless they take action very quickly. As annoying as it is, especially as Charlie and I were just getting to know each other, I support it and am sticking to it.

And I totally agree about the national news considering England to be the UK and the UK to be England. It's very frustrating, especially when the only coverage Wales gets is one of Tesco's social media team ballsing up and accidentally kicking off a huge story when in reality it's an isolated incident in very specific circumstances, which is then presented as something that's happening everywhere in Wales.
