So, as the title suggests, 2 questions. In summary: 1: Best equine horse medicine & 2: preventative measures for soggy feet.

More detail:

1. My mare is out in the field 24/7. She is a warmblood. She has had a mild cough for the past few days. It first appeared a week ago (just coughing once or twice with no mucus), I have given her a few days off to see if she would get rid of it herself (and not be exacerbated by exercise). Now there is a bit of mucus and still an occasional cough. She hasn't got a temperature, so likely to be a virus. Just want to ease the symptoms for her until it goes away over the next week (hopefully). She is not at all bothered by it, is in great condition and it has not got much worse. Can anyone recommend an equine cough medicine/treatment which you have had good results from? Any other suggestions welcome - it is not allergies and it is really not serious.

2. As she is kept out all the time, even though her paddock is on a slight slope, so it's not that muddy, the weather has been incredibly wet and so I want to avoid any issues with her feet that might appear. Every day I check her, and every week I wash and dry her feet and lower legs and then spray her heels with purple spray. I was just wondering what people on the forum do to prevent mud fever etc.

(my other horse is completely pathetic, he goes out for a bit most days, and is stabled by night, and still managed to get thrush and would get mud fever in the blink of an eye if I didn't wrap him in cotton wool! The mare, on the other hand, seems to be tough as nails - hurrah!)

Thanks in advance!
