Having just found out how much a horse that has been doing 3*s, being placed consistently, and nearly passing out, I was wondering how much you guys would pay for one?

£60 k plus?

At Burghley they kept saying that Piggy French's Paris cost over £100k, I should think that it was a lot over £100k prob nearer to £200k. I know that Internet the stallion who was placed at four star was £250k as an 8 year old- that is what he was advertised as, who knows wether he got it tho!

A friend has just been bought two by a sponsor and they werent as much as I was expecting, esp as one has been round Badminton a few times!!

Crikey! Could never burn that much money on a horse although I suppose thats all peanuts to the super rich

I know a 7 year old sold abroad last year that was supposed to cost 100k. It had been successful Intermediate and possibly advanced and certainly had a bright future.

I guess the new owners of this horse thought he was worth it, I don't think he was but then I don't have money to throw about.

REALLY?! I didn't know that! Remeber him advertised in H&H and thought it was rather vulgar to put an actual price rather than POA

Talk about a kick in the teeth. Nothing they can do about that I suppose?

i saw one once for a 4* horse for 300k and i nearly fainted...all i can say is i wish....i think a reasonable price though for a 3* horse is probably at the moment about 100k.

But it must be nearly impossible to value a 3* horse with serious 4* potential though mustn't it. There are people around with serious cash, and I know its sad but if I had cash to burn I'd pay whatever they wanted!! Because the price wouldn't matter to me...

That is exactly what I think these new owners must of thought. I still don't think it was worth it though.

Yes, you know what I am thinking but how can you put a value on potentially competing at Badminton/winning Badminton/competing at the Olympics (as long as the horse really has this ability - which is hard to measure...). It's priceless isn't it and is all "hope" value - as these horses normally aren't tested to that level, and its impossible to value this "hope".... surely.... so confusing!

Hmmmm and if they HAD done it, how can you value the opportunity to ride a horse that can be competitive 4* at say Badders or Burghley??!!

But then £300k (which is the most i've ever heard eventers being talked about at) is nothing when you think that dressage horses and SJ'ers go for £millions and racehorses even more!!

I was offered £75k for William Hill when he'd done Bramham. Can't remember the year (it's that long ago!) but it was when the European Champs were at Burghley (was that '96?). It was a Canada-based Belgian who wanted him because he was qualified for Burghley.

Was he really? I didn't know that! What a shame! He was a lovely horse! I looked after him at Catherston, right after Burghley, when he was advertised in H&H for £300,000!! Very quiet and easy to handle - I would have bred to him for his temperament alone. That really, really is a shame!!

I heard the story that LS went to pony euros and that her father said they would buy the best there whatever the cost and it happened to be Spring. LS is a very lucky girl as just been bought French Intermediate champion and that would not have been cheap.

The most I know one sold for is one placed top 12 olympics and badders sold for about £300k, the buyer then went and got another down under at the same time for the same kind of money. Never did well with new jockey or host of other profs it was sent to, think it is now about 15 and doing juniors.
